Saw this engine at Yosemite Machine in Modesto, CA yesterday. Note that this is built around an ATX engine (vertical holes for the engine lifting eye). Put together for a Salt Flat land speed car. Let's have some guesses on the HP, and I'll then fill you in on some of the details.

OK, here's the skinny: Goes in a Bonneville Salt Flat LSR. Car ran 242 mph (presumably in the mile). Didn't hear it run.

Heavily modded ATX engine. Custom crankshaft: bigger rod offset to reduce stroke and size from 3.2 to 2.9L with custom con rods, rod journals ground down to accept Buick bearings. Red line increased from 7K to 10K. Single carburetor. 20# supercharger.

Per Gary Morrell: Dry sump and 4-stage oil pump. 3 of the pump stages are scavenge to pull oil from the oil pan, the plumbing in front are the scavenge lines from the sump and screen trash filters to save the scavenge stages if the engine grenades.

The scavenge stages pump oil through the 3-into-one manifold to a de-aerator and remote storage tank somewhere else in the vehicle. The 4th pump stage is the pressure stage which pulls oil from the remote tank and feeds pressurized oil to the filter, oil cooler, and engine.

750hp. The most I've ever heard of from a SHO engine. My track car with a 12# supercharger was 550hp at 8K. He even has a 475hp n/a SHO engine. The most I've heard of n/a is around 315 (such as Bernd Gadow's car).

Most from.......??? All Generation SHO's???

Because my 2010 EB is 805chp & 617awhp at it's highest tune file. Links for proof if requested.

Which is more than this build you've highlighted. No dig by any means to this project, cuz it's sick in its own right(s).

I would also confirm what Zach is running in his "Blue Turd" as he has a pretty insane build himself.

Big kudos to all the SHO nuts/lovers out there!

Nick is an old school SHO guy. I'm going to assume he's talking about the Yamaha v6.

That would be the most HP I've ever heard of for the old SHO engine. However, for the amount of money invested in that setup the numbers better be that good. That is amazing!

Yes, I'm definitely old school at 71, and am talking about the V6.

To me the Gen4s are behemoths. Powerful yes, but they need to be with all that extra weight. I'll hopefully won't start a flame war, but don't consider the Gen4s as SHOs in their original spirit. A bit like the newish Pontiac GTO which is nothing much more than a rebadged Holden. Feel free to differ, and leave it at that.

Good question to which I don't know the answer. I'll see if Eric Dominguez can contribute to this discussion. He's the SHO owner who lives in Modesto and put me in touch with Joe of Yosemite machine.

That's like comparing the Coyote to the iron 4.6l Mod. Two completely different animals.
