Well it looks like the CPS is my problem.
so I need to replace it.

I dont think that I will have the money for a new timing belt and water pump, but if they are not too much, then I will do those also. I am needing to replace the passenger side fender and have one ready, so I figured that to make life easy, I would remove the fender on that side (since I need to anyway) make the change, and then put the new one on.

Does anyone have some tips etc? Thanks.

I found the full 60k front instructions.
it looks daunting. If I am not replacing anything other than the CPS, is there any way to work from the side only and get to the lower cover and the cps without tearing off the entire front end?

THe middle timing cover is seated behind the lower timing cover. And you can get one of the lower timing cover retaining screws off with the crank pulley on there. Not to mention the lower timing cover goes around the crankshaft spindle, and would only swing out of the way if you could get that screw out.

I 'm in the same boat now. I called everybody for the CPS best price I found was autozone for $55. Then the water pump, I have never seen a more expensive water pump until I called this small parts house that serves mostly wholesale accounts. My price for an sho water pump is $38.00 everyone else was up around $200.

Just a few notes from me, 1000 miles post Front 60k.

1. Do the water pump... unless you want to rip the thing apart when the gasket or bearings go bad. It is worth it, and you'll be glad you did. Don't buy the water pump from anywhere besides the few sources referenced on the boards. RockAuto.com has a much cheaper price than everywhere else. The rear housing doesn't need to be replaced, generally speaking. RockAuto lists the Cardone pump front only.

2. Do the timing belt... unless you want to spend time when it breaks (and leaves you stranded again), or you want the SHO to run like ****. I have two cars to compare between, and one has no 60k done at 90k, and the engine has a lot more lag. If you have a MTX, the belt tensioner is manually set, and as the belt wears and stretches, your timing actually retards.

3. By the time you are down to the CPS, the water pump and timing belt are very easy to replace. Also, consider the front main and cam oil seals. The cam seals are a PITA, but I fixed a leak onto the cat which started smoking... and oil leaks can start fires! Just keep that in mind.

Good luck, and if you run into any problems, the folks on the forum are here to help! :thumb:
