I removed the spring on the rear driver's side caliper for the e-brake, so that I could try swapping it with another one.... now I can't get the other one back into place...

Any tips on how to pull ths job off? I may just have to replace the caliper.(e-brake won't disengage, even with new cables)

Thanks.

Use a large pair of channel lock pliers to squeeze spring ends together. Wrap a heavy tie wrap or bailing wire around it to keep it compressed. Install spring, cut tie. Takes a little prectice, but, it's the only way I could figure out to do it.

Jay97SHO,

If your emergency brake cables are not binding, and they should not be because they are new, then the caliper is most likely the cause of the emergency brake failing to release.

Before replaceing the caliper try the spring from the parts car. If this does not solve the problem, then the caliper is hung up or binding and needs to be replaced.

Make sure that ALL of your emergency brake cables are working freely. Check from the pedal back to the calipers. Stick with it, rangerj

Was that a sick Pun, rangerj? :D

That is exactly what I attempted to do. All of the cables work freely. I removed the old spring(slightly less stiff than the one from the parts car). My problem now, is that I cannot get the damn spring back INTO the caliper. I will try Pete's idea of using the wire to hold the spring ends closer together, so I can insert them into the proper slots. It seems almost impossible to do it any other way...
Word of Advice to people: DO NOT remove those springs

Jay,

Sorry about the pun. This is one of those jobs where it seems as if you do not have enough hands!
Sorry I can't be more help. Think leverage! rangerj
