I have an engine swap coming up when the weather cools. I'm trying to figure out which steering rack I want to use. Has anyone installed a Gen3 SHO rack sucessfully in a gen1/2? I heard that Kirk did this in the white gen1 that he had awhile back. IIRC, this was before he swapped in the entire gen3 subframe.
As far as I've heard, I need to elongate the mounting holes on the subframe (gen2). Apparently the high pressure line fittings are different as well. I need to confirm this but I believe that the gen3 high pressure line port faces the firewall and IIRC, the gen2 rack port faces the engine. So, I assume that I'll need to fabricate a custom line to bend in the correct direction with the correct fittings?
Also-I've heard that the gen3 inner tie rods need to be used with gen1/2 outer tie rods? I've heard a rumor that there may be an issue with adjusting toe?
What about the VAPs module? Do I unbolt the one on my 93 and bolt it to the gen3 rack?
Anyone have anything to add? I've heard that these racks offer great feel. If i don't use a gen3 rack, I may install a gen1 non VAPS unit. I want something better than my fairly new (Ford reman) gen2 rack.
Thanks
Ian
