My 93 ATX motor is clean enough to eat off. In fact Jiffy **** guy asked me who detailed the motor. Told him nobody. Ran a VIN check after I bought it (Duh!) and found out it was salvage twice! But boy is it clean and the paint looks terrific.

Figure it had a front ender (all new glass in the front) and a side impact some other time. One door is slightly torqued out at the top but it doesn't leak. Just bought a DU41 off ebay (yeah I paid to much - $150 with shipping) but when I pull the PCM it may tell me something. Based on mushy shifts I'm betting it is a 93 PCM.

Made me wonder if motor was 94 or 95. Anyway to tell?

look on the head, to the left of the front valve cover, there is a date printed on there, kind of behind the lift hook. If it says 92 or 93, then its probably the oroginal engine. 94 or newer and you know you have a newer than 93 engine.

there is also the possibility to read the vin code on the block, and compare it to your vin. i am told it is below the coil pack, near the bellhousing, but its stamped on the block. good luck

Bingo! - date read "OA952CA" in ********* letters with a smaller strip of numbers under it - however the number was on the end of the valve cover looking in from driver fender.

Under large OA number was another string of 6-7 small numbers in small type that were preceded by OB - looked like a serial number. There was also a very small "93" sitting off by itself under the OA and OB strings with no additional data.

Plug wires were routed over the large black letters and numbers so I had to push them around to read letters and numbers. Couldn't find any other numbers. Nothing matched last eight digits of VIN which I understand is the engine serial number.

Could someone else take a look at their rear valve cover looking in from the driver side fender and tell me what numbers are on the end of cover? Especially the large black numbers. Thanks!
