How to evacuate A/C system aka Scope Creep

So, I picked up a pre-made, 55" negative battery cable w/pigtail from a local NAPA store; also, stopped by my brother's house and picked up an A/C compressor I got from Fred some time ago.











I have 2 Schrader valves, one in front & one in rear. No A/C recharge kit of my own, I borrowed Fred's:



Question: I can't find a Schrader valve on this existing setup, so how can I empty the refrigerant? I have no idea if there is any actual charge remaining, but there very well could be.

This entire piece is the valve. There isn't a serviceable schrader valve. Take a wrench and turn it off the line.

Before you evacuate the system, it might be an idea to get one of these that comes with a gauge so that you can check the pressure at the low pressure port by the firewall:

That compressor you picked up appears to be missing the clutch, so if you plan to install that compressor on your car, make sure to install the clutch before you connect it to the car. Looks like it would be a real pain to try to install with the compressor mounted in the car.

It's very doable. Getting the nut loose to try and remove the clutch is a pain. Just installing the clutch isn't bad at all.

I bet it's still easier to do before it's installed on the car though.
