how to disconnect the wire from low oil sender

What is the proper way to disconnect the wire from the low oil sender on the back side of the oil pan? I'm afraid it will break by just pulling on it.

Remove the retaining ring, or push it out of the way with two dental picks.

See the hex on the sender and how it has a slot in it? (makes it look like 2 nuts on top of each other) In the slot is a square retainer clip like this: []. Pull it out and the wire will come out.
