first make sure the seal is on the old one and not on the motor still. then put some oil on the seal. some people fill up the filter thats optional. screw it on hand tight.

Yea hand tight it ok. I usually take a filter wrench and put an extra 1/4 to 1/3 turn after i have gotten it hand tight.

As tight as you can get it with your hands (without gorilla-ing it on) and then loosen by about 1/8 turn to take out any distortion that may be in the gasket from tightening.

Unless you're putting the filter on a motor that has not been run in a few days or more, there's no reason to put any oil in the filter (of course with the angle the filter mounts on the V6 cars you really can't prime it with that much anyway). If you want to prime the oiling system before starting, just disconnect the DIS and crank the motor until the oil pressure light goes out.
