I'm assuming you bought them online or such? You noticed that alot of local tire places are charging more now (or seems to me) since they don't want their sales to go online. Most tires places offer free mounting and balancing with the purchase of 4 new tires. And when people start trying to get discount prices online and circumventing the tire places they start losing money. Just some thoughts...

But yeah I'd agree $40/tire is a ripoff.

At our shop, we charge 14.25 a tire, with valve stems, tire disposal, wheel weights, and such. $40 a tire is ridiculous.

Around here, depending on what you need, some places you call to inquire about prices will throw at you some ridiculous price negating the possibility of you even coming to the shop for that service. When I swapped out the slicers for the gen 3 chromies I was told over the phone $15 per tire. Got there, and was only charged $6 per tire. Not always the case though.

I just had one of my old slicers re-trued and when I got it back they'd remounted the tire backwards.

So I took it to my local Discount Tire where I've done a lot of business over the years and just asked them to flip it the right way and rebalance it, which they did for free. I had my "lifetime balance" thing in my hand from when I originally bought that tire, but they never even asked my name or anything. Maybe they recognized me, but I was pretty happy with it.

I guess that's one of the reasons I do business there. :thumb:

I'd like to know how some shops figure their pricing. I ordered tires from Tire Rack two years ago to mount on '96 wheels. A local shop quoted me $138!
The following weekend I happened to inquire at the tire desk at BJ's.
Mount, balance, stems and disposal $41. I knocked a weight off at an autocross and they rebalanced that tire for free, they've got my vote:thumb:

100% correct. I am pretty close to the owner of my shop and he basically said what i just quoted. The place where i work charges 26 a tire. Including valve stems.
