flywheels have nothing to do with how fast you were going. the teeth on the flywheel are only for the starter motor.

but to answer the question i think you wanted to know the SHO has a final drive ratio of 3.74:1. The speedo is driven off the differential just so you know

SHOYOURYAMA,

I take it that you are trying to prove that you lacked the prerequisit "intent' to commit the crime because your speedometer was giving you an inaccurate reading. The industry norm is 90% accuracy for speedometers, except for "police cars" which have "calibrated" speedometers.

You need the number of teeth on the speedometer gear and the gear ratio of the drive gears. You also need the diameter of the tires and wheels. Oversized tires will also add to the amount that the speedometer is off.

Given that most tickets are written for a minimum of 10 MPH over the limit, for all of the above reasons, I'd say that you have very little chance of "beating the ticket".

If the ticket was written for less than 10 MPH over the limit you may have a chance. Given the hard economic times that most states and local governments are in, I'd say kiss the fine, court costs, and costs of the speed shop doing the calibration calculation, good by! rangerj

Go find a good level stretch of Interstate hiway with mile markers. Drive at exactly 60 mph for a few miles and time the run. May need to do it a few times. At exactly 60 mph it will take exactly 60 seconds to cover 1 mile. Within reason, each second under 60 means you were going 1 mph over 60. Translation: 59 seconds = 61 mph,,58 seconds = 62 mph. Works the other way too, 63 seconds = 57 mph etc. For more than a 5 second difference you better do the math if you want accurate results. How will you answer the judges question,, " if you thought your speedometer was accurate, didn't it seem odd that you were passing all the other cars?" Have fun. BTDT

d = r X t

d = Distance traveled

r = rate of speed

t = time that rate of speed is traveled

If you know two of the three you can solve for the third using simple algebra. Most interstate highways are marked in quarter mile increments, periodically, so that the Highway Patrol can "clock" your speed from the air (helicopter or airplane).

Find the white marks off the side of the road and have a lovely assistant "clock" your time for one mile with a "stop-watch". Compare the calculated speed to the speed-o-meter in your car in order to determine if it is "off" or inaccurate.

LMAO! You guyz are so funny!!
I'm paying the speedo shop $100 to just write up a reciept saying my speedo was way jacked. I was 15 over rangerj. They need to know how many teeth are on the fly for the paper work.. I geuss it really doesn't need to be accurate.. I'm going to the court saying my stuff was jacked cuz the cable got smashed up in my clutch job (do you honestly think a judge will ask more details?) Plus I'm handing him a piece of paper stating my speedo was all jacked, TY to my local speedo shop. How can't I lose?

sdpatt,

You can only take defensive driving every 18 months. I'm SOL. Granted you can lie in court saying you haven't taken in the past year and a half, but just because they don't have that info in front of there nose doesn't mean they wont figure it out. I've had friends take DD classes 2-3 times a year. I'm not taking the chance of them finding out. Comunity service? I've done 15 hours already this year.

My reason for being dishonest to those that think lowly of me.. My insurance has a red flag--one more incident=no insurance. Isn't $195 dollars enough for one month?

NOTE: If you have a speeding problem, it's worth buying a scrambler for $300 in the end. I wish I took that avenue years ago. Did you guys know that if yoy don't speed and drive like a snail you get 23-24 MPG in the city? Lesson learned... now to deal w/ the city..

Anybody out there got a spare flywheel they can use to count the teeth. We need to help this fellow SHO owner beat "The Man".

Let us know how this turns out. Be aware that the judge will have a list of your prior offenses sitting in front of him (or her). This will not help your credibility.

As for the judge asking for more details, well it will depend on how much the judge wants to amuse himself, or herself. Do you think you are the first one before the bench to try this?

A word of advice, look presentable, be respectful, and above all be humble! And one more thing, the speeding ticket is a minor misdemeanor, perjury is a felony! Good luck, rangerj

Just in case, does anybody know where SHOYourYama can get a good pair of walking shoes?

He will say too bad you should have notice your speedo was wrong anyway. Lose $100 plus still have the ticket. You think your the first person who has tried this?!

oh and if you live in Kentucky your flywheel will only have two teeves. :)

Opinions are like ********.....everyone has one and they all stink. With that said, here's my opinion. Pay the ticket, turn in your license and stay off the roads until you grow up some. It's people like you that make the news for killing entire families on the road because you were "trying to save a few minutes". Not gonna find much sympathy here.

Is that for an African, or European swallow?

I would plea insanity. "C'mon your honor, why else would I drive a SHO?"

Just don't try to tell the judge, "The badger made me do it." I'm not taking the hit for this one.
