How important is the clutch position switch?

There are two switches on the pedal, one I got is for safety starting but the other is wired to the ECU, does it do something during shifts? control fuel and timing for better shifting?

if thats the case, I should be ok, since i'm not gonna use the unit, hopefully it doesn't throw a code
