get rid of the reving noise of the engine through the speakers. Is it a bad ground? I just installed a Sony cass. deck. I have all the wires hooked up. I got this special harness from circuit city ($45) to still use factory amp. Even though the Sony is a 45x4.
Question 2: is what I did stupid?
(I did it because I thought my amp wasgoing bad... if it was, then that hookup would not work... but it does work...)

Well that sound usually comes when you have a large system which obviously you dont. I would one check your wiring as well as where the grounding connects. A loose wire my cause this. If the wires are not the source then check the alternator and make sure it is doing its job.
Buying the amp hookup harness was not stuipid buying the sony was stuipid, sorry but the quality on those are not very good. If all of the above check out good then you may want to find a friend with another aftermarket radio and put that in there and see how that sounds. You may end up taking the radio back.

If you're sure the connections are correct just try installing an inline noise suppressor first. They are really cheap and usually do the job.

There could be several problem areas. One...your spark plugs. Check to see that you have the proper plugs installed. It does make a difference. Two...your power for the amp may pass too closely to your head unit. Three...you may need a noise supressor. They are cheap and they do a good job. But check other things out before buying. Never know, it might be something that you don't have to buy for. I'm all for simple and cheap these days.

Well, I ran into a problem. Front right speaker had hardly any sound. So I took back the adapter to use my factory amp (thinking my amp is bad). Now I am running my speakers from the Sony head unit. That did eliminate the engine noise... I think.
