How do I use this stupid tool???

Ok, I am doing the forbidden heater core change. The dash is out and the AC has been evacuated. I am down to disconnecting the AC lines.

I have this stupid tool which I have never had to use: Yes you can make fun of me later...:evilgrin:

It goes behind the joint (not in front of it like you're showing it), so that the ****** on the tool can go into the ring and push the retainer spring out of the way. The joint should come apart at that point.

Edit: Actually, I can't tell which side the spring is on in that pic. Whichever side the spring is on, push the ****** in there to displace the spring.

from the pic I can't tell, I think it should be behind the coupling, but I can't be sure so lets use the fuel disconnects as an example in this discussion. First off, I admit that tool is a bit difficult to use, I've used it several times.

look at the fuel connection, on side is solidly conected to the line, the other side has a ring opening and you can see a spring inside the opening. place the tool on the side with the spring opening, the objective is to slide the lip in and expand the spring. that will allow the flared end of the tube to be pulled out thru the spring. once the tool is in place expanding the spring, pull on the 2 sections of tube to seperate them. I have found that the real problem is the O rings inside the coupling have siezed the outer housing and made seperating them difficult, try twisting the tubes to break the seal.

I have found that the real problem is the O rings inside the coupling have siezed the outer housing and made seperating them difficult, try twisting the tubes to break the seal.

x2! I had to loosen some of the clamps that hold the one line there because I couldnt get it to twist without it. That part was *almost* the hardest part I thought. Good luck! That job sure isn't fun.. Make sure to clean that box out real good when you get it outta there, and I don't know about the rest of the guys here, but I used blue silicone when I put the box back together. Smelled like it for a week or two afterwards, but you can't tell now.

The ****** on the tool needs to go under the spring inside the coupling forcing the spring to expand and then allowing you to pull the spring lock coupling apart. So first insert the tool into the coupling, from the looks of it your going to have to pull the tool towards you and then grab the other end of the line and pull it apart from the line with tool on it. The lines are a little tricky and rotating the line back and forth while pulling helped in my experience.

Hey Guru, I have a question for you... Could you help me with mine? I don't even know where to start.... I have the heater core, is there anything else I need? As the AC hasn't worked in mine since I've had it, I am not worried about recharging it afterwords...

I am in Marysville... :p

btw, the heatercore I bought is aluminum...if it matters...

maybe I can driver her over to your place?
