I'm in the process of wiring up some subwoofers i bought and I have a question. What do I have to do to remove the stereo so I can get at the back of it? It came with an aftermarket stereo.

What is the brand name on it?

You usually need a specific "key" that comes with aftermakret radios. I would try you local car audio place to get it out. Or, you can use some flat head screw drivers, and with some fennessing, you can get it out.

9 times out of 10, the "key" is simply a piece of aluminum, about 3 1/2 inches long, and a quarter inch by 1/32 inch thick. you should be able to carefully unsnap the plastic surrounding the faceplate (usually by pressing up on the botton, ad then swinging out but NOT ALWAYS. then you'll see two slors on the sides where these keys go. they jsut slide down and hold back a clip on either side, which hold the head unit. you can easily make your own out or somthing else, it shouldnt be that hard.

That's another problem. I can't figure out how to take the faceplate off. When I turn the car on, it folds down. I don't know how ot take it off thought. The guy before me gave me the box, but with no directions.

Have you tried pulling on either side (one side at a time) to see if it pops out. If its a detachable face, you almost always just pull on one side and it pops off.

What do you mean it folds down? See if you can find the model # on the box or something, and with that we will be able to nail it down in no time. :thumb:

the faceplate may not be removable. i'm talking about removing the plastic trim around the outside fo the faceplate. there should be something around the edge, remove that, and youll be able to see where the tools slide in. yeah the model would be helpful to know for sure, if you dont have the box it should say somewhere on the faceplate

I have the box, I'll check for the model. But It came with a case for the faceplate so it must be removable. It folds open, and then closed when I turn the car off. It is really cool. But also kinda broken. My hand slipped off the shifter going into 3rd one time, so I basically punched it  .
