How do I pull my codes?

I know this has been covered before, but how do I find my codes? Like a step by step process of everything I need and all and how to do it. Thanks.

Ok I was reading up on this and it looks like I just stick a piece of wire into the self test input pin? Ive located this, so do I stick the wire in there, then turn the key on and watch to see how many times the CE light flashes?
