How come it doesn't work?

I spent almost 4 hours for this dang plastic fuel line.

Here's my story. There was a hole and it was leaking. I decided to fix it today. I followed instructions on this forum. Looks really easy. No! It wasn't. Cut the line, put the end in the boiling water for 1 minute and tried to put that plastic line back on barbed end of quick disconnect. Haha. It didn't wanna go in. Tried again, again, and again... Nope! didn't work, so I got a ride from dad to autozone and got some fuel quick disconnector removal so I can actually stuff the disconnector in the plastic fuel line. It didn't work either! I finally put the end of the line in boiling water for 10 minutes and then stuffed the disconnector in the plastic line. Finally it went in about 2 shoulders(There are 3 shoulders on that barbed). Actually, the plastic line is on 2nd shoulder. It got hard, so I called it good. It runs fine for now, but I know I have to fix it someday.

Here's the question now. How do you put that plastic line on barbed end? Tried boiling water but doesn't work at all!

The boiling water will work just fine. Take the o-rings off and heat up the barbed fitting also. The metal of the barbed fitting acts as a heat sink and will start to harden up the soft nylon before you get it all the way on. A hair dryer works well also. Just not together with the boiling water.

You are saying that it isn't safe enough and I need to fix it as soon as possible? What about just putting a clamp on it(I know it's plastic but,,, still haha) for back up? I'm trying to find easy way to do this because I already cut the line a little bit and there isn't extra line to cut the line and slide it back on again. Dang, I'm about to go to ford dealer and pay them to do it. Haha

Anyone? I'm just thinking of putting a clamp on it since the plastic fuel line is holding the barbed end pretty hard. I tried to shake it and they seem like 1 piece.

It is just like that. Right on the 2nd shoulder( not over). Will I be fine with just a clamp on it and call it good?

I'm just scared of driving it now since I don't have AAA. Haha.
