hot start issues

I have 1 94 ATX, 99K. my mechanic has replaced pretty much all of the suggested fixes that I found on the forum, but the problem still persists.

Cold starts are fine, when warm or hot after sitting, sometimes fast crank then almost no crank, eventually either goes, or battery does. sometimes slow crank then fast and fires rough for a few seconds then ok. the other day, drove for an hour, car would not turn over, battery dead, boost and then go!
next day same battery,fired no probs.
I have replaced crank sensor, starter, and now battery, I cannot trust it to take it anywhere!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

How are your starter cables?
I think the small wire off the positive terminal feeds your Integrated Relay Control Module (IRCM or CCRM) and that can affect alot of things. It has been know to corrode where it splits off the harness. Man-handle those wires while someone rolls it over and see if any position makes a difference.

The fact it is a hot only problem suggests an electrical / electronic issue, and I would have suggested the Crank Position Sensor, until I noticed you have replaced it already. I assume the problem preceeded the sensor change and the same problem was there after.

Check for stored codes that may lead you to the answer.

Other than that, I am out of ideas.

Has the car been sitting for any length of time? Changed gas stations? Fuel Filter? Thinking possibly clogged or misfiring injectors.

Spark at the plugs when cranking?

Grounds? DIS/DIS connections?

Verify that a boost will get it to start correctly every time you have the problem. If so, check your battery-alternator wiring for corrosion, as well as voltage across the terminals.

First, you didn't mention any codes - have you pulled codes? if not, that is the place to start.

there are a couple of categories of issues you could be having, and like lots of things on older vehicles, I am guessing you have a couple things going on at once.

The "no crank" when hot could be any of the high-current wiring as described above, or it could be a bad starter solenoid, or even a bad starter motor winding - that work okay when cold but may or may not work when warm. Just because the starter is newer does not mean its not bad - many infant mortalities on these starters. Also be aware that it is possible for battery terminals to look clean but have a glaze on them which is a pretty good insulator, so I would clean battery cables and posts again.

The "crank but no start when hot" issue could be a bad coil, bad dis, bad crank sensor, sick cam sensor, etc.

One thing to try when you experience the "crank but no start" is to floor the gas pedal. If it starts right up then, you have a flooding issue like an injector that leaks.
