Hey all. So I have a 2013 Taurus SHO with the LMS 93 tune. On a closed course I was hitting 135 and while at those speeds my hood was not a happy camper and seemed like it was going to break the latch and fly off (lots of movement). My question is, is this purely because of the speed and the car requires additional latching mechanisms or could this be a faulty latch. I'll be investigating further after work today but was hoping for some ideas from the community.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I've experienced this described issue myself on my 2010.

Although it didn't happen until AFTER I cut in the engine hood vents.

It is more pronounced when I left off the under belly pans (both the larger one under the engine bay itself, as well as the smaller one under the radiator core support).

Once I replaced those two pieces, the vibration was noticeably less, but still present.

I am looking into hood pins as an added safety measure, and have been discussing the installation of same with my body shop personnel.

Interesting to hear someone else mention this..... I thought mine was an isolated issue.

As Mike said, the bellypan would be my first place to look. Some people seem to not have it installed as standard equipment.

So I got my car up on jacks the other day and was investigating the bellypan. Its pretty solid, but there is a little play near the wheel wells. One thing to note, when I first got the car the tires where stolen and it was left on bricks (they broke window to get wheel lock key from cabin), it fell off the bricks when the tow truck driver was trying to put temporary tires on. The collision shop did replace some pieces on the under-carriage, but not the bellypan. Do you think this could be residual damage from the fall?

You should be able to check it out when you remove it to change the oil. It shouldn't have any scratches or broken parts.

On another note... Were the bricks new or used? (sorry...)

My 5 long plastic push in pins fell out while on a jobsite. I cut the corner of the blacktop where we cut the parking lot out and as the wheel dipped into the hole my bumper cover hit the ground, well on my way to work out of town a week later I couldn't do anything over 70 MPH or my hood and front end would shake all over real bad.. I replaced those 5 push in pins and the problem was solved!
