Anyone with a GEN IV that does this:

Get in the car, ambient outside temperature is below maybe 50F, and take off.

Doesn't matter how long the car is idling after remote start.

Go down the road a few blocks, get on a local two-lane road and get up to around 40-50MPH and it HOLDS 3RD gear until I let off the go-pedal.

It'll hold it at up to 4000RPM until I slow down to take the curve at the end of said road.

Playing with the paddle shifters when it does this, I come to the conclusion that it's in 3rd gear.

Only happens when outside temp is below 50 or so.

I know Ford has done some strange things with trannies to warm up the fluid quicker, like keeping them out of lockup until warm, but this is kind of extreme.

This is in regular "drive" not Sport Mode. Haven't tried it in Sport yet.

I wonder if it's related to my "turn the wheels, hit the go-pedal and nothing happens". Starting to think that may happen only when in 3rd gear.

Hmm...

I'm not sure if the 2013 is effected by a transmission TSB, but my 2011 had something seemingly similar that was remedied by the application of one or two TSBs (2 TSBs applied at the same time). One TSB addressed the valve body in the transmission. The other was a new flash load.

I held off on commenting as I couldn't remember my 2010 doing this.
This morning it was 16 here, and no, it didn't hold the gear until i warmed up as you described.
I did notice though that my battery seems to be getting weak.

I have a 2010 as well. I also do not otice her holding any gear when cold and I typically start the engine, wait 10 seconds and drive off though easy on the gas until she is warm. I run full synthetic. I have 67000 miles on her now and I changed my battery this summer. Just died on me.
