Hi Everyone,

My car is a 2016 Taurus with 72500 miles. All stock with a 3 bar and a GH tune.

I noticed today that my high pressure fuel pump is clattering (best way to describe it). Do you think replacing it with an aftermarket pump will be okay? Or would you recommend the OEM pump. Big difference in price between the two.

Thank you,

Frank

Do you plan more mods? If so, get the XDI HPFP.

Did you happen to recently remove the beauty cover on the motor or the foam cover on the pump?

Thanks Kryptto, I looked at the idea of picking up a used pump, but decided against it. I think I'll probably go with a new one.

Hi Ta2dResqr, I have removed both those covers recently. Do you think that could have possibly caused the noise I am hearing? I put a long screwdriver up against the top of the pump and it sounds like a definite mechanical noise coming from it.

Try putting the covers back on and see if the noise "goes away". I ran into the same issue when I added the HPFP. I bought a used one. I installed it and left both covers off. I thought I might have got a worn/damaged part. Put the covers back on and the noise went away. I had to trim the foam to get it to fit the aftermarket part. That stuff was put on by the factory for NVH. If the noise goes away, I would say you are okay. Maybe look at some PIDs with a scan tool to make yourself more at ease. Then decide if you want no noise or no covers more.

Ta2dResqr,

Do you know if there is a cam follower for the fuel pump? I may pull it off today to check.
I can't seem to find an exploded parts diagram.

Thanks for your advice.

Be careful reinstalling. There is a install procedure to keep it from binding.

Above is the number from Ford. I bought a new one at the dealer, I paid 10-12 dollars more than I could have gotten it for online. But I got it today and installed it.

Below is the old tappet, you can see the area were the fuel pump sits and it's wear spot. The new piece was completely smooth in this area.

Right now the noise seems much better, I'm going to wait to see if the noise increases again before I order a new fuel pump.

I want to Thank everyone who contributed your help is much appreciated.

Ta2dReqr: When I reinstalled the fuel pump I put it in and slowly pulled it in a little at a time alternating between the bolts.

Thanks Marauder that's the number I found also.

Where did you pull this from? Trying to source the part as PM and looking at Tasca, it says it only fits 21-23 F150 2.7, 3.3, and 5.0. It also says it won't fit the 15 SHO.
Honestly, I don't remember where I found that. I ran into the same info as you. I kept searching and found what I found. The online Ford parts catalogs are sometimes quirky like that.

Here is an entry from Rock Auto.

Awesome. Thank you. That lists our application and gives me a little better feeling about fitment.

FYI, the bag the part came in said the part was manufactured in Germany. In case you might be wondering about quality.
