I have a slow leak in my plug well seals on my 94 Atx, has anyone tried using high mileage oil to slow this leak down, or does anyone think it will help until I have the time to replace the seals and valve cover gaskets. The guy I bought the car from used mobil 1 10-30, so maybe high mileage oil will leak less than synthetic.

Thank You

I use the high mileage oils from Valvoline, Mobil and Castrol only as good measure, but I wouldn't think that it'll stop leaking plug well seals.

It certainly isn't helping on my Cam seals....

"High mileage" oil will not prevent or slow leaks. Do not switch from Mobil1 full synth if that's what's always been used, it's an excellent oil. BarsLeak or Lucas oil stabilizer will possibly stop the leak, but these products can clog some crucial passages and is really not reccomended. They can expand the seals, temporarily stopping a leak, buty may ultimately cause more.

Stop leaks are band-aids, at best. Replace the seals. Miracles do not come in bottles.

Pretty much the simple reason why is because oil companies design their oil very well and by adding something to it you mess with the mixture of it.....someone else will go technical probably

I would only use that Lucas stuff if you live in mild to hot climates... That stuff is as thick as HD gear oil. Putting it into your SHO when its -10 out will be like running with no oil in the pan at all. I use it in the summer time and it fixed a smoke on start-up after 2 oil changes. But... i am sure someone out there is gonna flop my post big time so dont listen to me *wink*

The Tranny fix however is great! Saved 2 transmissions of mine for 10,000 miles + </offtopic>

Ever put vaseline on a rubber O-ring and leave it on a table overnight? It's the size of a doughnut in the morning!

Just think, that's what stop-leaks and stabilizers do to your seals... soft seal are bad news, man.

Jfug, this is SpunBearing from BITOG forum. These guys have alot of info and know a gread deal about SHO's so what they say should work. The seals are more intimidateing than hard. The hardest thing I ran into is the coolant lines that run to the throttle body.
When going back together just besure to make sure it all get's hooked up rite and the rear cover can be mean. People have problems with the gasket rolling or not staying put.

Make a post called Changing valve cover gaskets and seals for more info but I would do a search first, it has been talked about alot.
