My black 1996 has 147k on it and not rolling

I purchased my sho last march with 147k on it. I have been restoring the car since I purchased it. New gas tank fuel pump, replaced drivers seat, replaced rotors pads tires and many more. Looking forward to actually driving it! Engine is apart for intake cleaning and cam welding. Cams are welded of of 8/20/08 Rolling as of 8/22/08!!

Well, ones higher than that are probably already scrap and parted out, therefor the people who owned them wouldn't vote :p

The problem with the GEN 3s is that as they age they get cheaper and as that happens alot of the people that get them want cheap speed <edit gen II here> and dont have the cash or knowledge to keep them running. I see more and more every week in Craigslist with cam failure.

not our sho, but a buddy of ours.. no cam welds and well over 200,000 miles. actually it is in our shop right now for dry rotted bypass hoses under intake and it has exactly 287,820 on the odometer. I swear, I just went and looked at it... silver gen III... good condition too.

I wonder if the engine is original.

yep..it is.. I promise. we have known this car forever. I should take a pic while it is here, it is still on the original transmission too.

ashley

Edit: here the pics of the car ... the guy bought the car at 21,000 miles from the Ford dealership..original engine and trans...only here for the coolant bypass hoses under the intake are dry rotted and leaking

There has never been any certainty or likely time for the failure of the cam sprocket to cam interface. I remember from several years ago hearing from a number of owners with 200K+ cars that had as yet had no problems, while others indicated theirs had failed at under 50K. Both appeared to be rare, though, with most failures between those limits.

And, of course, there is no real way to prove that every engine eventually will fail, short of tracking down every GIII and keeping track of them forever, which is not going to happen. I do think it likely that if kept on the road indefinitely with no fix, you would eventually get a 100% fail rate, but for some of the engines, it could be a very, very long time. It is all just to variable to point at some particular number or even a narrow range.

How much would everyone pay for a GENIII Sho with 130K+ Miles?

sad part is ...you don't see gen3 sho's going for much money at all....
i would say.....2500-3k.... should be about right....i think they should be worth more, but the taurus is ford's bread and butter and the market is flooded with them....;)

btw, got my 97 sho with 94k for 1200 bucks..(need pump shaft rebuilt)ball joints 2 tires and insspection and a few other things, car is mint and everything works...i got about 3400 into it now with everything done and a perfect car...just turned 95k....

127k, welded cams, new fuel pump, fuel regulator, cam sensor, plugs, coils, IAC, EGR, secondarys removed, 2 1/2" single into 2 1/2" dual flowmasters, radio controller and speakers removed for weight. To come are STS turbo, mazda 6 manual tranny, more weight reduction. Car runs good but has a slight stumble at lower RPMs, especially in overdrive. The car has had this since I have owned it for the last 8 months. feels like a vacuum leak but I have checked this with a fine tooth comb, carb cleaner test and propane test. Only thing I can think of, oh ya cleaned mass air flow sensor to with CRC.
