HIDs installed

Finally installed the HID system that I've had lying around since the begining of summer tonight. I had to replace a ballast and it was ready to roll and I just got it. It's just amazing how much difference their is between halogen and HIDs. I took a few pix

Matt where did you get that system and how much (if you don't mind saying) did it cost you? Do you still have high beams? And is that legal in the Peoples Republic of Va?

Acutally yes they are. They are from my 1991 from when I was finishing off the kumho's on the back. Good ol ebrake at 30mph

With most HID systems you will only get the low beams, which is plenty of light for everything don't worry. As for passing inspection, I would take it to small place and when they ask, tell them "that's how a HID system works", or swap to your stock bulbs which is easy enough.

That's everything you neeed, I recommend the 8000k kit.

You do not needed to upgrade your wiring harness, remember HIDs only pull 35 watts instead of 55/65 from halogens.

Be sure to follow the spanish instructions to make the installation more difficult cuz it's sooooo simple.

wow. sounds pretty awesome. and I just got finished installing a high wattage harness too...now there's something that much better. can you find a before/after pic, or a pic of these next to a stock car? how big are the ballests? is that little space just behind the headlights on the other side of the radiator support enough room to just sit them in there?

I'm also wondering, what's it like without high/low beams? originally you have the ability to point the lights strait ahead of you when no one else is around to see very far down the road. then point them right at the ground (unless you fix that problem ) when someone else is coming the other direction. do you find that you can find a good aiming point for the HIDs so you can see far enough down the road yet don't blind everyone in sight?

The ballasts find acutally perfectly in a little space right in front of the headlights, which is wonderful. No need to fool around trying to mount them, just stuff them in and go. If you want to see where I put them, take off one of your headlights and imagine a box about 2-3 inches by 2-3 inchs and you'll see a spot right there to put it, it braces itself.

You really just need to aim these suckers right to get to the point where you don't blind everyone but you can see the road. I live in the country and I really do not miss the high beams at all. I do find myself still reaching to hit the high beams that aren't there. Aiming is the key to this, otherwise your investment is crap. If you look at the pix I posted you will see a one side hid and one side stock for a comparison. I might try to take a pic on that road with the diff bulbs, but trust me, you might not even be able to see the stock bulb.

O.K. Now I am really confused!
I always thought HID's were like what Dylan SHOwed in his pic. But I see OzzmanNT's is not like that!

OzzmanNT has the 9007 bulb kit, it replaces the stock bulbs with an HID bulb system. what Dylan has is the actual HID projector lenses mounted into the stock headlight assembly. if I remember correctly they are the projectors from an S2000. they are both HID, just different ways of doing it.

The projectors are the best way to do it. As mentioned, when you go HID, you lose high beams. Therefore, the DOT pattern on your regular headlights is not really a good choice at all for HID, because when you aim the lights farther out, you also scatter lots of light upward, right into other drivers' eyes. The projectors have a razor-sharp top beam cutoff, so you can aim the headlights almost straight out without blinding oncoming traffic, and you don't really need high beams as a result. And the S2000 projectors are the best available.

Still, the regular HID bulb conversion kit in the stock headlights is 10x brighter than the stock high beams. It just can't be aimed out as far. I might do this since it's cheaper and I drive in the city most of the time anyway. Or, perhaps I'll just get the Hella HID auxiliary driving lamps so I can just augment my low-beams without eliminating the high-beams.

I like this idea, since I already have the Silver Stars as a white light. Plus I wanted more lights on the front anyways, as in driving lights.
