Does anyone know of any conversions available to turn the SHO lights to HID? Does Ford Make HID's for the Gen III SHO?

You can get 9007 HID bulbs, there is a link floating around here somewhere. A search should help. Someone actually retrofitted S2000 headlights into the gen3 headlight housing. Very hot. Unfortunately I don't know where any links or pictures are. I would try a search.

Those were on my car. I had to remove them because of an old ballast that blew.

But you can get a kit from hidexpress.com

There you go. Have fun. BTW those lights are the 8000k ones on my car. I would definatly recommend those. The violet purple looks cool too, but the blue will look best on these cars IMHO.

Those lights look pretty bright for oncoming traffic. In your experience, did you have a lot of people flashing their brights at you or other comments? I was thinking about upgrading my headlights too, but I wonder if it would be worth the additional cost to have projector style HID's retrofitted into headlight housing.

Any problems burning things inside the headlight assembly? The lens or reflective material?

Not really, I've had a few here and there. Cops passed me all the time and none of them bothered me.

No, and they won't ever. These lights uses less power and therefore produce less heat.

I think the site was retrofit.com

I bought these ligths off a memeber named Tom who lives near the Boston area. I belive he got had a friend of his to make them for him. He has retrofitted some othre HID projectors in his new Sicon xB. i'm sure he could do more sets for the taurus. they also work with the oem adjusting screws. Trying to aim the lights is kinda tough.

What about those bulbs that are floating around ebay? Are those any good? I think they're made by Eurodezigns or something.

WASTE OF MONEY! They say "Simulated HID". Don't believe that they are actual HIDs because they are NOT. You are better off buying some Silverstars or XTra Visions.

Correct, if the listing doesn't have words like ballast and ignitor, you'd be better off just spraying your bulbs with some blue spray paint! :bonk:

FWIW, the DOT pretty much banned the use of aftermarket HID's for a variety of reasons, primarily due to the lack of high-beam funtionality in single-bulb applications, as well as various color temperature and beam compliance issues. Of course this doesn't mean that you can't buy, install and use them, but there are several states (like MA) where you can't pass the annual safety inspection without high beams or with non DOT-approved lights and would have to swap out to conventional bulbs long enough to pass the inspection. Plus, you'll ocasionally run into some law enforcement types (you know the ones I mean, they actually have a tint meter to check your window tint) who will give you a hard time about them, often even a ticket.

Time to bring back the past

After having the S2ks in. I have got another gen3. And I wanted another HID retro kit. SO i found someone and asked if they would make them for me and he said yes. An month or so later I have them. these ones are from an E55. I also had him fit a set of angel eyes around the projector. I think everything came out nice. thier are some spots that don't look factory but you can't see them unless your face is right in their.

Here are some pics i took the other day. Alos in the pic you can see my other 98 SE with the S2k prjectors and my CF cowl hood and my 13" brakes wrapped up for the winter.

This one just has the angel eyes on.

This one is a close up of the HIDs and angel eyes

And here's one with the lights off, in this pic you can see the parts that don't look factoy, but I don't blame the guy one bit.

And what the ****, here's one of the red car with the other HID retro kit

I'll take some night shots of the E55s soon. The color on them is crazy, more than the S2Ks but the S2Ks are a better light for driving.

If you don't mind me asking how much for the entire set up that you have on your SHO? That looks amazing....and really mean!

Actually neither of these cars are SHOs. It just happins to be the title of the thread.
But as for the cost, the ones on my red car cost me $550 used and I got a brand new tranny cooler but, I had to drive to him for pick up and so he could install it. Since at that point, i had never even seen what the HIDs consist of.

And this set cost me:
brand new head light assembliys off ebay $125
halos off ebay $40
suvlights wiring harness $60
ballast, bulbs, projectors, and the labor $480
shipping $50 (I think, I forget now)

so this one was about $750ish
