I had the HID conversion kit installed on my car yesterday when I was in MA. (Thanks Gary!) I love the light at night, made my trip home in the middle of the night very nice. While I do need to aim them a little bit yet and clean my lenses a bit I thought I'd show you guys so you can see how much better they really are. I was amazed and as Gary said yesterday..."You'll be able to see ants crossing the road at night." A statement true to every word. thumb

Looks real bright in the 3rd picture

Do you happen to know what "stage" or kelvin your HID kit is? I can only judge from the picture but i'll guess a (stage I)4800K-5300K kit, close  ? Also if you don't mind me asking are they all Hella ballast/bulbs kit, Philips, or other?

Because over the summer I am planning on going with either a Philips 6000K kit or 7000K for my SHO but just can't picture it in my head if it'll look too blue or just white in our plastic housings.

they are a phillips kit stage 1 white. very bright compared to the stage 2 or even 3 hid kits, due to the stage 2 and 3 having a slight film on the lamps that gives the color that you see in the hid kits.

Thanks for the input Gary.

Edien, the lights on my car are very white and were awesome during my night ride home. I didn't miss a single road sign along the way, saw a few dear off the side of the road, etc. I even saw a few cops hiding in spots along the side of the road that I know I normally wouldn't have seen. The lights caught the reflective parts on their cars and gave them away. evil_gri

Like I said, I do need to aim them a bit down just a bit, but all the cops that I passed or that passed me didn't bother to give me a second look so I'm sure that they're not that far off. As for the lighting, I love it. I felt much more safe on my ride home.

The headlight bulbs I was using were Plasma lights with a blue tint. They were great for regular night driving but when it was foggy or the roads were wet or snowy they just sucked bigtime. I sacrificed a lot of much needed lighting with them but they were cool at the time. Like so many things, the "coolness" of some things wears off quickly, especially when you have a couple of close calls.

Edit:
Jim, that's snow...the front bumper and hood are plastic...remember? :)

Bryan ... shut up you meathead. We all know that was the result of me experimenting with the orange sunfire mystic metallic flake paint that I've been considering. :D :p

bizzy, you can try to aim them down a bit but you arent going to have too much luck because your lenses are very reflective. if you had the clear lenses like the gen 3 cars have then the aiming issue would take care of that for ya, i had them in my gen 2 and my maxima for years and i do get a couple of people that will flash now and then but all well. in fact my gen 2 had a brighter kit than the one that you have which came out of my maxima.

I had my eyes on a used Philips 6000k kit on Ebay that was going for $100, but the seller closed the auction because he sold it...

Anyway the Philips 6000k are fairly blue, looks more like ricer bulbs than the usual HIDs

About a month ago, I finished doing a custom HID install on my '89. I bought some Audi A6 HID lights for $350, and fabricated mounting brackets and made a lot of use of a dremel. It's not a perfect install, but I'm thrilled with the results, and that I did it all on my own. They still need a little bit of tweaking (aim adjustment) but they're still a lot better than the OEM stuff. Plus, I like the agressive look it gave my car. :D
The only pictures I have up so far are at:
photos.yahoo.com/sean_sfs
Then go to the "Taurus SHO" folder. Maybe someone wouldn't mind hosting them for me?

Ricer blue? evil_gri

Here are 6000K on my '02 TL Type-S:

And my TL-S came with a 4300K factory HID setup which still had a hint of blue, I just had to make the headlights match the foglight 6000K.

Gary would I be able to buy a kit directly off of you?

The pictures there look nice, though I was more after a "plug and play" set which I got. Gary didn't have to make any mods to my car for them to work, just added the ballast boxes, plugged the lights in and boom. I'm sure there was some other minor wiring that he did, but I was working on sealing a trans case so I didn't see all that he did.

Edien, I like the look of the "ricer blue" but as I said before, I stayed away from it because my vision is not what it used to be and I found it to be much easier to see with pure white. Though these headlights seem to have a purplish/bluish tint to them off to the side...maybe refraction from the lense covers. Straight on they're nothing but white.

Am I missing the pics? All I see is a drawing of the lights?

it's one of the first front end pics he has in there. It's not with the lights on, but rather it shows how he's modded the lens to hold the HID lens.
