Hey folks, are these holes supposed to have bolts in them??

I actually got under Sylvia on a lift and there's two what look like bolt holes to me that would connect the tranny to the block at the bottom on each side of the oil pan. Could this be why I am feeling drivetrain shifting when it seems all the cradle mounts are tight? Thanks in advance for your opinions..

You can see the impressions of the washers.
I do not know the size or length but I should have those bolts in stock.

Wow...that's amazing...what kinda ding **** doesn't put bolts in that go there...(7##!&*@#^()7%%%$%!@

Thank you Kevin...So any idea how to find the right ones short of taking one off another car...
Also, it looks to me like the gasket between the two is shifted/slipped and likely to prevent the bolt from finding the thread

ps..you're darn right it didn't feel right...

that's one of your mtx cars, right?

the "gasket" you mention is just the blocking plate, but to get it to move you will have to loosen the other bell housing bolts.

I don't think that you will feel any moving around with those bolts missing (although they should be there) unless the other bell housing bolts are also loose, in which case the blocking plate would have fallen out.

yes, thanks..it is Sylvia..90 MTX that had the cracked radiator and I did the brake lines and having trouble getting out all the air...that thread-that car

well then I guess its back to something with the cradle, they seem damn tight to me...could there be looseness because of rust..

Come to think of it...I remember when I took apart the tranny from the block of that engine I got at jy, someone had snapped off one of those and the other was a bear to get out as I remember, I've likely got a pair of them, but I need to know the size...my other cars are locked up in storage til April and I can't get at them.

Those bolts are M10 x 1.5 and they need to be about an inch long after the shoulder. Mine were missing too. I found out when I did my rod bearings this week and literally just put the new bolts in today.

Hi Thanks...I've got bolts I'm pretty sure from a previous disassembly. I understand now that its really not causing the shifting of the drive train that I hear/feel...I've got it in the shop for control arm that my hands just can't handle anymore and they'll figure it out I think. i'm starting to think that there is rust that is keeping the cradle bolts feeling tight but there is actually missing metal from rust that is making the whole thing not tight anymore..

Hey, is it possible that those two bolts just worked their way out over the years, or is it more likely that someone just didn't put them back???

good chance they just didn't put them back when they changed a clutch; didn't get the plate lined up right and had the top bell housing bolts tight so they couldn't move and just left it.

No, I think those are the upper ones... these maybe

IMG 7040 zpst1j2uwxv

or two of the shorter one??? I found the shorter one still in the hole of the engine I got from the jy in the right place with some aluminum in the threads and the corresponding place on the belhousing is broken off at the bottom, Someone had a tough time with this at some point. Anyway, probably doesn't matter enough with all those larger bolts all around the rest of the circumference..

I'm starting to thing that they guy who left it at the yard...who actually was a guy who worked there- had some trouble trying repair the tranny or clutch and busted stuff and gave up.

This is what the stock bolt looks like. It's M10 x 1.5 Anything that size will work.

Hey..thanks very much!
I've definitely got one, and then another that is 2", same otherwise. I should be able to get another one here somewhere.
Thanks again,

yup, the first pic is the upper ones, the roughly 1.5" (40mm) one is what was in there. the 50mm one may fit, depending on how deep the threads were tapped.

Turns out all three motor mounts on Silvia are broken...torn back from the rubber mounting to the metal. I believe I have some thanks to Colorado...
Thats been causing all the shifting, not the cradle mounts...

Thanks everyone, the bolts went in just fine, even the one that was 1/2 inch too long, probably doesn't make a big difference either way since all the other bell housing bolts were they and tight, just like putting things back to rights as it were
