It is the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pressure sensor. I don't believe there is any cross flow through the lines since there is no pressure differential at the points where the lines attach to the EGR tube. Makes you wonder why there are two lines.

the egr valve is right on the side of what I'm talking about. this thing bolts to the intake with two 5.5 mm bolts.and also has a harness that clips in to the back of it.car seems to run fine but some times it idles rough.and seems to lack power at low rpm's.also my check engine light will go on and off after heavy acceleration but if i baby it, it won't come on. i cleaned the intake and it runs better but the old problem is still present.

Yeah, that is the egr pressure sensor. As sdpatt said, it is not supposed to freeflow air through it. I would check the error codes and make sure you're going after the right problem. The car just dying sounds more like the cps than an egr problem.

Scott

It is actually a Differential Pressure (Vacuum) sensor (DPFE in Ford parlance). It provides a DC voltage proportional to the DIFFERENCE in vacuum/pressure applied to the intake ports.

Here's a good primer on Ford EGR systems: http://www.smpcorp.com/download/view/tt2q00.pdf

Per the Chilton's manual, it's the EGR Pressure Sensor. Of course Chilton's is wrong other places, so it's possible that's wrong, but that's what it's called in the Chilton's manual, which Scott and I both use. I have seen someone else call it the DPFE, too, so perhaps it's one of those "whichever you prefer" sorta deals.

The switch as some of the guys have said does not flow through. There are two seperate electronic vacume pressure seitches one is used for reference and the the other senses the change in flow by the EGR valve. this info is sent to the computer to make the proper adjustments.
