HI all,

My latest drama is a leaking gasket on my 6 month old water pump. The lower left bolt broke and now that I have removed the pump the gasket needs to be replaced. Nobody in my area sells this agaskets and the dealer says it obsolete. I now rock auto sells them but I wanted to try to get this thing up and going today. Can I use just RTV or the liquid gasket maker instead of the gasket? Also, a store in my area does sell the gasket sheet so I can make my own, but I am not to familar with doing this.

I had a similar problem with my probe gt about a year ago. No one had the gasket and they wouldn't sell it to me seperate from a new waterpump which was 60 bucks.

SO I reused the old gasket (rubber o-ring type) but it was too large for whatever reason so I cut a small chunk out of it and set it in small groove with a good amount of Yamabond.

My dad told me there was no way it was gonna work :snicker:

Well I just sold the car 10k miles later with no leak :****:

You can make your own fairly easy, I remember I used a permatex product with my SHO waterpump, I think it was mainly to stick the gasket to the waterpump before installation though.

Permatex actually makes a "Water Pump and Thermostat" Silicone RTV Sealer, you should be able to find it at most auto parts stores.

got the gaskets/ now what???

ok so I got the gaskets. the onyl autozone in houston which ever has anything for this car mysteriously now had 1 set in stock. So I got the set the es70425 (I think but they are the right ones) but there is an extra large o-ring. The other half says change the thermostat since it came with the housing gasket andI assume the extra oring is also for the thermo. So should I put the permatx rtv on bothe sides of the water pump gasket or only the pump side? and what about the thermo gasket permatex for it too?
