A week ago my trusty 91' stalled at a traffic light and would turn over but not start. I was able to push it around a corner out of harms way and the initial symptoms were plenty of fuel at fuel rail valve and a motor that sounded to be very out of time. Would vary between spinning madly as if it had no compression and then would barely crank as if it was running 50 degrees advanced. I called a friend with a flatbed and when he arrived the car started and I drove it onto the trailer. Took it to a speed shop that has done some work for me and after finding no codes set we decided the problem was the crank pos sensor. To net this out the CPS did not fix it nor has the DIS, coil pack or the cam position sensor. Fortunately my friend that owns the shop is on good terms with the parts house guys so we were able to "borrow" most of the parts to try out. Of course the CPS stayed in, buit now it seems as though the computer would be next (or last) thing to try. My question is, are the computers year sensitive or would any 3.0 MTX unit work, or is there some other criteria I need to know. There is a possible source for a used unit locally or a person that is able to repair. Any thoughts on this situation certainly appreciated. By the way the stalling and no start symptoms have remained constant throughout and when driven between stalling it runs awful-missfiring and bucking. Thanks to all-I want to save this car from the crusher.

Double, triple check spark plug wire order on coil pack. The order is subtle and so easy to get wrong. Unplug MAF and see if it runs better. Check DIS ground....run temporary wire from lower bolt to battery negative. Verify tach comes off peg when starter is cranking. Check plug wires.

Very nice. Even though I'm not really having any problems with mine I may check a couple areas to make sure they do not become a problem.
