Ok im in a delema. Iv needed new shocks and springs on my 94 atx.
Iv been researching KYB gr2's, Koni's, and Tokico's. first off what do all of you think is the best shock for a ATX?
For springs iv been looking at eibach, Intrax, and Moog. same question. what do all of you think would be the best of those for a ATX?
Now what would you all say would be the best combination for a ATX? Im looking for about 1-1½ inch drop lower than stock.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/812384 as you can see im sitting MUCH lower than stock and about grinding my exhaust tips in the rear. (thats what you get for still having the original shocks and springs on a 94.)
Iv been going back and forth with this shock spring thing for along time now. "i want koni's", "nahhh i think tokico's would be better", "well KYB's are cheaper"
same with the springs.
MAYBE you guys will have the right answer for me.

I know this was a bad question to ask too. yes i know. there is no right set up for a atx. but work with me. and yes i know i will get 10,000 different answers.

Thank You So Much
Shane

GR2's aren't really meant for the SHO, let alone an upgrade to an SHO. I'd consider them stock replacements at best. The moogs are similar, though they are firmer then stock, but are meant more as stock replacements.

For ease of install, I'd go with the Tokicos, though from what I just read today, your Uncle Bob doesn't seem to happy with their warranty. A friend of mine(NJSHO) had excellent luck with their warranty department, maybe its just luck of who you get on the phone when you call.

I have Koni/Eibach on my 93, and I love it. The konis are definitely more work to install though.

You should ask yourself what you want from the suspension and then decide what to buy, assuming you can buy any of the brands that you mentioned.

I'd choose between the koni/tokico and eiback/intrax and forget about the GR2/Moog, unless you're on a budget.

Also check out shox.com, they have a pretty good deal if you buy springs and shocks together. Others have found better deals elsewhere, but shox.com has great customer service.

Thanks For The Advice. The GR2's would be my last choice. Considering all the bad things i hear about them. and that the Cr@p out on people.
I am sort of on a limited budget. well its just the fact that the money coming in isnt very much so i takes time before i can get anything. I think i will go with Tokico/Intrax. Tell me what you think of that? Koni's are so much more expensive and they do take alot more knowledge to put them in.
although i think i might prefer the Koni's. (see this is what im talking about)
and again Thank You for the advice. narrow down my selection.

I just bought Tokico's online last night for $405.00. But that leaves my bank account dry. so im going to hold out on the springs and try to use a set of OEM heavy duty springs that i pulled off my 93 mtx that where still in great shape.
it will be about a month before i buy the springs because of the rate at which i have money coming in.
I was thinking that the eibach would be the best way to go but i wanted to get some other peoples opinions Thanks for the help :thumb:

I'd hold off on putting those spings in. The MTX is lighter up front then the ATX so the springs aren't as stiff. Changing struts and springs isn't a 5 minute job either, no point in doing it twice. Wait till you have the money to get the springs. Definitely buy new mounts and bearings for the front. Make everything new while you have it all apart.

I'd go with Eibachs also, the intrax may lower the car more then you want.

Shane,

I think you are on the right track. I think that you will find that the car will ride correctly with the Tokico/good stock springs. Perhaps it won't have the slammed racecar look, but it will be sporty, yet comfortable. You should remember that it is better to err on the side of more damping than spring. Think Bimmer :thumb:

Oh BTW. How are your shock mounts? This will be a great time to replace them if the are not in good shape. Good mounts and TPR bushings are a noticable difference from stock. They give the car a tighter feel. More of that BMW quality. I'm in a BMW mood today, if you couldn't tell.

Bill. Shane has compared the sping codes from his stock springs with the charts, and has found that the ATX springs are in fact softer than the older MTX. Ford cheaped out over the years. Gen 1 cars often had better springs, and sway bar combinations.

Thats good he was able to get springs that still had the tags. Hopefully they haven't sagged much.

Shane, if you are definitely set on getting Eibachs or Intrax, I'd wait and do the job once. If you're willing to do it twice though, you might as well put those stock springs on and see how you like the ride. You might just save yourself some money if you wind up liking what you have!

Thats what i thought might happen so im going to put them on with my stock springs Hoping they give me a good ride. i just found some BBB's that i want so im going to buy those then eventually im going to change springs because these are just so old. probably in the spring i will buy eibachs and put them in. but for now im hoping the Tokico's/oem's will do the job. :)
