Hey guys,

I just picked up a SHO as a nice daily. It's a '91 5MT and it needs an alternator.

I bought a unit from a recycler to get it on the road, but it looks nothing like the one in my car! It's from an '89 and it's supposed to be the 90AMP model for a 3.0L. Do I have the right thing? It doesn't look like the one I have on my car.

Also, what other alternators fit the SHO? Can the unit from the 3.8L Windstar work? I keep seeing a bunch of eBay ads that say it will, but I'm a bit confused.

What alternators work with our cars (AMPS, etc.), and does anyone have any advice for how to replace it? I am new to these cars/engines.

Thanks!

You need an 89-93 MTX SHO alternator only. The 3.0L one you probably got was for a vulcan, which is wrong.

Check the classifieds here, a couple people have alternators for sale. (I think Boat is one of them)
