Hi all,

Im putting in a JVC headunit and im having trouble. The car had an aftermarket cd player in it but it was from 10 yrs ago, so I took my harness and spliced all the wires to each of the same color. Well the radio/antenna work but the speakers dont. I have double checked all the wires and colors and they are correct. The only conclusion I have come up with is that the factory amp <premium sound> is not turning on. The old cd player didnt have RCAs and the new one does. So do I need something like this?

Im pretty sure I need that amp cable to plug into my RCAs but I just want to make sure before I buy it.

You need to bypass the factory amp. There is a plug you can buy to do that or just rewire all the speaker wires.

Depends on how good the "new unit" is. CD players are equiped with their own amp, you just have to determine if its better than the factory one. I put a $300 Clarion unit in mine and I was advised to bypass the amp and take advantage of todays technology. It does an excellent job I must say. But don't let the price determine if its good or not. Get some specs on the JVC unit...odds are its better to bypass. You can find the bypass harnesss on Crutchfield or I might have one laying around.
