Hey all i am trying to get my SHO back up and running so i can possibly sell it in the future and i was told my water pump is leaking.

Does anyone have a write-up and tools needed to do the job? basic tools + ?

Luckily the timing belt cover is already removed. Also there are 2 water pumps available at my local shop with 2 very different prices, whats the difference?

There are no stupid questions. In addition to member replies, if you use the search forums function above, you can find a lot of info archived here over many years.

One of the pumps looks like the nose only and the other looks to be the whole pump.

The Duralast water pump is brand new manufacture, made in Japan by Aisin. It is identical to the factory original pump. It comes complete with a new housing and pulley. The Valucraft is a rebuilt water pump, probably by Cardone. The center section is rebuilt (that contains the wear parts), and you reuse the original housing and pulley. If you are going to keep the car, it is well worth it to invest in the new water pump. If you are going to sell the car, then it might make sense to take a chance on the rebuilt one. Many people have good luck with them; though I had one fail in less than 2,000 miles. If you go with the new pump, you will also need to get the Felpro water pump O-ring kit; some of the o-rings included in the box with the new one are not correct for the SHO.

When you change the water pump, you may be tempted to just change the center section and leave the housing in place. That shortcut usually leads to a do-over. When you remove the bolts holding the center section, the housing is also loose. It will shift enough for the small o-ring between it and the block to leak. You'll also want to remove the crossover tube so you can replace the o-ring on each end of it. Lubricate the o-rings with antifreeze only for reassembly.
