I purchased a catless y-pipe from the sho shop group buy. After removing the stock pipe and trying to put the new one on i noticed that one of the threaded rods on the rear ...collector (what the pipe bolts too) is stripped! Would re threading the rod be my best bet for repair or should the "collector" be replaced?

if u can find the proper size for that bolt, then u can find the tap and tap handle and just slowly clean it up....

Check further up on the stud - what happens on the exhaust manifold stud is that the threads get eaten up outside of where the nut rests. If you have threads about 3/4" - 1" up from the end of the stud, that's where the nut will rest when torqued. Re-threading will not likely work, as the material has been corroded away - you'd have to go with a smaller nut anyway.

If a stud hasn't broken off, I've always been able to reuse the hardware, otherwise it's a remove & replace the stud or drill & tap.

Best of luck!

there is no thread left at all and I will now probably end up going to an exhaust shop anyways. Thanks for your help though
