Help regarding Blinking or NO Day Time Running lights.

Hello all,

I have a 99 Taurus with an extended warranty with FORD and the DRL is either blinking or does not come on. Sometimes the DRL stays on or blinks ever so slightly after I've started the engine or if the car has been driven for awhile. But when I switch on the head lamp the car lights do not blink any more. All other lights on the car have no problems to report.
I've read through your forum and it seems to be, according to another posting, that it's a faulty DRL module, is this correct or is it another problem in my case? Is it normal for this module to break so soon and would this repair be covered under warranty? Can hooking up driving/fog lights to the main head lamp switch instead of its own switch (overload) cause the DRL module to break?
Lastly, if I where to fix the problem myself where is the DRL module located on a 1999 Taurus and how difficult is it to change?

The DRL is to the outside behind the drivers side headlight in the fenderwell. The module is bad or the wrong type. If you are under warranty make them honor it. Any parts Ford replaces under warranty is warranted for one year regardless of the warranty on the vehicle.

I would not connect any fog lights directly to the OEM wiring. The Gen 3 wiring barely adequate for the OEM needs. Get a 100 watt headlight harness and then run the fog lights off of a relay connected to it. Your headlights and foglights will be brighter and last longer.

Here is a picture of the DRL on my '97 SHO. You have to take the splash shield off that covers the bottom of the radiator and then look up around the horn. Take the spoiler and splash shield off as one piece.
