I keep hearing a thumping noise coming from the rear of my gen II. It sounds as if it's coming from the trunk area. Any ideas?

If it sounds like a clunking coming when you go over bumps, big or small bumps, it could either be your shocks, or shock mounts. I had a pair of mounts go on my '90 and it sounded horrible. It started out as a clunking, then moved up to a very annoying squeek.

Maybe there's something wrong with your subwoofer? Do you have an aftermarket system?

Maybe let the guy out of your trunk :D ... Seriously, maybe it could be your exhaust that is hitting something? Try and put your foot on the exhaust in different places to try and steady it. Just a thought.

You also may want to check the condition of your rear sway bar frame mount bushings. If they are worn out or dry, they may cause the sound you describe. I was also thinking that maybe Beano could help. :)

Scott,

Great idea. It could also be the sway bar link ends. I broke mine and the sway bar was free at one end. Sounded like a bowling ball banging around in the trunk, but this of course was when I turned.
