Not sure if this is the right section so mods, feel free to move it if necessary. Anyway my tach in my 93 doesn't work an I am trying to figure out why. I changed the cam sensor and that didn't change anything. So are there any wires that might not be connected, or something that would cause my tach not to work, or do you guys think the gauge has just had enough? I tried pounding on the dash and that didn't do anything:biggrin:

the cps is brand new though and the car runs fine.

Is there a difference between the gen 1 and gen 2 cluster?

My tach would stop, act up, etc. To fix it, I just replaced the tach. Works fine now. Jon, yes they are different.

So if he wanted to use a tach from a 91 cluster to replace the one in his 93, it wouldn't work?

yeah what's different about the tach? I know the gauge faces are different but what about the actual mechanical part of it? Also how hard is it to replace the tach? I don't want to replace the cluster just the tach, I don't want my car's title saying unknown mileage.

You can simply pop the tach out of the instrument cluster. On the Gen 1 tach's I've noticed there are two trim adjustments as opposed to 1 trim adj. on the gen 2's.

I have heard that the 94/95 clusters are different (actually better units) can anyone confirm this and does anyone know why?

Also could a bad tps be messing up my tach? I feel like I have a dead spot around 2500-3000 (I'm guessing since I have no tach) and I am thinking it is tps related. Also when I floor the gas during startup the car will stumble a little bit and start. The car shouldn't start at all when I do that, yet this one does.

If the EEC doesn't know the actual throttle angle it's possible for it to start b/c a WOT condition isn't detected. You can get a meter on it and slowly move the throttle to WOT and watch the voltage for any strange readings. At idle it should be just under 1 volt on the middle wire and almost 5v at WOT IIRC. About the tach, does it do anything at all?

I have .96 volts at idle and 4.72 at wot as well as no dead spots throughout the range. Also no the tach does nothing, doesn't even jump when I turn the key on, which is why I think it's dead. I have power to the tach wiring at the DIS and I have a replacement tach I am going to put in to see if that changes anything.
