I took off the intake to clean it out and assembled everything back together. When I went to start it, the car revved to 3,000rpms and then falls down to like 400rpms. It makes an almost knocking sound when it gets to 400 rpm. Anyone have any ideas? I need to get back to college tonight!

Did you use Berryman's or a comparable cleaner? Did you do the lower intake ports, & not vacuum out the liquid? The engine will run, but won't idle by itself until all of that crud is burned up & exhausted. I vacuum out the Berryman's & run it at 3,000 for about 3 minutes. You can see the exhaust change color briefly sometimes.

Another idea: is everything reconnected? IAC, TPS, MAF, vacuum lines in the back of the intakes, etc? Did you pinch a vac. line on reinstalling the intake?

Good Luck, Ryan.

Taking off and replacing the intake is very easy, but it can also be done improper. There are vacuum lines, plug wires, etc that can get pinched. Are you sure it`s seated properly?

I really think it is a vacuum leak. The intake was very hard to put back together and it might not have seated properly. I know I connected all the vacuum lines and sensors. What about the rubber things that are on the intake holding it together? Can I get new ones of those? They are pretty crappy.

Fred, I used b-12 chemtool but not on the lower intake ports. I cleaned those with a rag.

Intake runner connectors - SHO Shop has them for about $100 per set; I'm currently working with Kirk Doucette on getting a source for them on the V6; in fact, he took a sample of the 3 sizes yesterday to be sent out.

Sounds like a pinched vacuum line. I did it once and thought it seated kinda weird. It ran like crap and required a new peice of vacuum hose after being torqued down that hard.

I don't think I pinched any lines. I took the intake off again and did not see any. But my concern is that the intake itself did not fit together as easy as it did when I took it apart. Is there any reason for this? Has anyone had the same problem as me?

Fred, I am interested in the Intake runner connectors. I would rather get them from you than the SLO Shop.

You need to loosen the clamps for the runners on the surge tank ends (secondary plates). Torque down the 12 runner to head bolts, then tighten the outside clamps.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak to me...

Hey Mark,

I tried to tighten it like that before with no luck. The fit is pretty tight. The crossover tube almost didn't go on. Are the gaskets where the intake tightens down by the valves reusable? Also, I put a dab of RTV sealant on the ends, could that cause the problem of a gasket leak?
I wish I had a spare intake just to see if mine is off somehow.
