hey guys i'm wondeing if someone can help me out. I'm stuck out of town and i'm about 5 hours away from home and i can't get there. I'm having problems with my sho, it won't idle properly it goes from 1200 and then drops right down to 4or 500 rpm's like it almost wants to stall. I don't know why it's doing that cause last year when i aprked it it ran fine but now i get it going ths year and it does this. but that's the okay part cause it's still drivable to get me home. My problem is that now when i'm driving the sho my check engine light comes on then about 3 seconds later my car starts puttering and jumping like i'm just learning to drive a standard or like i'm running out of gas. That lasts for about 30 seconds then goes away. Sometimes it does it longer and sometimes shorter, it doesn't matter how fast or slow i'm going. I do have some mods to it and have done some work also in the last 2 days but i need to get home, cause i was leaving yesteday and it did this about 20 min out of town(thank god) so i turned around and now i'm here stuck. To get here it ran fine but since then i put in one of Josh's aftermarket FPR changed my spark plugs, a thermostate, temp sensor and ect sensor othe than that i don't know what i could have done to set it off. I replaced my cam sensor and that helped a bit but now it's doing it evey so often and not all the time. I'm going to try and change my crankshaft senso and see if that helps. Anyway sory to ramble on but i just wanted to give as much details as i could. If ANYBODY can think of what it is please give a suggestions and i'll let you know what i've done. I'll take anything. :hail:
Thanks everyone ED

Sounds like the IAB sensor. You can try and clean it with carb cleaner. You can test it by hooking up a 9v to the inputs. You do need to have the part off to test it.

Codes might also help as well.

i do have the intake of now so i'll try to take of the idle bypass? do i take of the whole piece or just the front?

About the FPR yes i had adjusted it to 39 like i was told but it still didn't run vey well. i had put a gauge on the actuall FPR to see and know what to adjust it to but when i tookit to ford to see if they could find the problem he put his on the shraeder valve and it was showing 60psi.

About the idle bypass would that also be screwing me up when i drive?

The IAB affects idle and when you are cruising. If you are just barely on the gas and it give you problemsthen it probabaly is it.

You need to take off the whole sensor. You just need to remove the 2 socket head cap screws and that will be the sensor. You can then clean it.

anybody else with any suggestions? I have the intake off now and could do the crank sensor, but maybe this has happened to someone else and they might know what to do.
Or maybe i can put the intake back on and maybe it was the idle control valve.

By the way the code that's coming up is a PCM 511 with about 10 others that folow but i looked up other posts on the search and found that no one had the same symptoms. I'm also putting back on my stock FPR hopefully that fixes the problems and it gets me back home.
Thanks

One other thing to check, make sure the DIS module isnt laying on the engine dampener bracket (its by the right side strut mount area).
I had a similar thing happen and it turned out that the subframe bushings were shot and the engine was sagging back.

A real simple thing most of us over look and your post doesn't show that you have changed it since the car set for the winter. Try changing the FUEL FILTER :)

i was thinking that but why did it run great for me to travel here for 5 hours and also when i drive it runs good about half the time. If it was the fuel filter then it would run crappy all the time right???

Not really, it just might have a partial blockage and letting enough fuel in to run around town until it gets the crap up against the filter element.

I am going to place my money on the crank sensor, although your idle problem may be a different issue.

Have you checked the codes to see why the CE light was coming on?

During the "puttering and jumping" did you happen to see if the tachometer was going crazy or even working at all?

I would suspect the problem is in the ignition system; you say you have replaced the CPS (cam sensor. Check the connections on the DIS which is located on the passenger side of the intake manifold (I doubt he DIS is your problem though) So I will bet its your CKP (crank sensor) like I said before, but nothings for sure.

So Id say check those codes...

Good luck

If you already have the sensor then I would change it.

Right side if your sitting in the vehicle. The DIS module is mounted on the crossover tube of the intake. It is gray and says MOTORCRAFT on it. It is about 5 inches long.

I am thinking first might be your IAC( Idle Air Control) valve
just a sugestion too,, the same thing similar happend to my 91 ,.. try to clean the mass air flow sensor or 9 replace it with e remanufactured one frm any local auto parts for $ 55-75 or something, .. maybe would help... ( but i think that be more than 50% of the fault in that part) also another advice wouldnt hurt if you check out what you tps( throtle position sensor) is puting out.. and last advice unplug your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) located in the driver side bay ( tranny right under the master cylinder) and see if the car still does that idling problems

good luck :thumb:
