I have a odd problem i have loose steering ive replaced the outer tie rods which helped checked the control arms, inner tie rods, rack mounts, have ALSFB since they were shot engine was moving when you turned the wheel etc. soo when your just sitting there turning the steering wheel it will give i guess is the word and then pull back its really odd both directions and when your driving taking corners you feel really disconnected from the road....so when your turning it for the corner it feels basically numb

i checked the pinch bolt on the shaft that seemed tight is there more than one?? how tight? it almost sounds like its coming from the engine side of the firewall

i also have vaps in low boost mode which helps did according to shotimes

i noticed while i was down there i would turn the wheel and hear it porting fluid.

i am really confused i just want to feel connected to the road is all ROFL

The problem might lie in your strut mount bearings. The sensation of the steering "fighting" you is usually most often caused by those. Problem is, you must remove the entire front strut assembly to change those...

My experience w/ ALSFB is that they are very difficult to keep tight, which will result in the symptoms you describe. Make sure they are tight and stay tight.

There are at least 3 pinch bolts on the steering column - one at the rack, and one on each side of the u-joint that is up by the tilt pivot location. Any of those even a little loose will result in the symptoms you describe.

I have this same issue currently. I had my technician look at it & listen to it from under the car while I was rocking the steering wheel quickly back and forth from dead center. Mine turned out to be some physical play in the rack & pinion gears in the steering rack. It's only noticeable when steering back from dead center or while changing turning angle from L to R or R to L... it's not that bad and since it isn't leaking anywhere, I decided to wait until it either gets worse or starts to leak before I replace it.

Hope that helps, sounds like it may be the same problem to me.
