HELP! Exploding Fireball Death SHO!

Last night I decided to start Ashley's car up as it had not been ran since Sunday. It ran fine with no issues all Saturday, Sunday and the week before. It would not start. I figured it just being a pain in the ass and throwing a feet because it had not been ran in a week....I'll get to it tomorrow I thought.

Well, Today rolls around and we try to go and start it. Nothing...Smells like Fuel too....Move it a few feet down the driveway to pop start it...Nothing...that's when I notice the Big Puddle of Fuel in the driveway. Holy shit! My first thought is that a Fuel line had popped off or come loose as a result of our Top 60K somehow...Nope, Everything is in Order. So...I have Ashley try to turn it over just for the sake of finding this Fuel leak...She does and I hear the noise of Fuel SPILLING out from under the car...Take a look underneath and this is what I found...



Pretty Cool, Eh?

I have NO idea how this happened...But regardless it needs to get Fixed. Its located right before the Fuel Line runs up to the Engine bay. So my question is... Where do I start? Where do I get the Fuel Line? How much of a Pain in the ass is this to repair? I'd like to get it going soon.

Back when i had my 93 i had to repair the fuel line. I had hit a piece of metal on the hwy and it cut it.

I went down to my local orilleys and they had a fuel line repair kit. Comes with about a foot of line, and a couple of brass butt connectors. (for lack of a better word.) So i just cut the bad spot out of the line and used that kit to patch it, after that all was well. Never had a problem with it.

Ok guys, I'm going to replace the Fuel line. I need to know two things.

First, What is the Fuel Line made of? Is it Nylon? It feels more like a Hard plastic. If I were to go in to a parts store What would I ask for? What width is it? 3/8ths or 5/16ths?

Second, How do I pull the Fuel Line right here?



Obviously I just cant Pull the line off by hand. Is there some kind of puller I need to buy? Time is of the essence on this one guys. I'd appreciate it.

Go to advance auto or something of the like and buy a fuel line removal tool. It's like 7 bucks or something like that. Then get home and fight with the line until it comes off. You take the tool and slid it in to expand the spring. If the car's rusty spraying some PB or something up inside the ring there may help loosen it up.

If you have a harbor freight they had a nice set for cheap, and Autozone had a nice aluminum set too... when you push that fitting in there, push/pull/twist that line around so its free and moving, or you'll fight it forever...

I can't imagine something eating that, once there was a hole poked that "rodent" would drink a cup and a half of gas in about 2 seconds... then what keep chewing? lol

Someone hit something.. was it hanging low? Only time I did that was when I was off roading in my 89 GL and ran over an old barbed wire fence before I turned a 4x4 mailbox post into toothpicks, then glanced off that into nice sunroom, after taking out a porch.

And that tool is to remove the Black Nylon Fuel Line From the Metal one (Where the picture shows). Sorry if my questions are obvious and redundant, I just want to be sure before I tackle this.

Yea I believe it is... .its pretty tough stuff.. enough to hold the corner of a motor up if say you forget to disconnect it..


but yes, either plastic or aluminum.. you push it inside the "round part", and usually if you push the line towards that fitting then away it'll pop right off... once you get one you'll figure it out..

You guys are describing how to remove the metal end of the fuel lines from the fuel rail, but it sounds like Sam is asking how to remove the plastic line from the metal fitting with the spring in it...

As mentioned above, if you just want to remove the fuel lines from the fuel rail, you need the special fuel line removal tool, and it goes on the engine side of the big shiny metal dish-looking fitting. The metal pipe stays on the fuel rail, and the "dish" fitting comes off of it and stays pressed on to the nylon line. I don't know if there's a special tool to get the nylon line off the metal fitting, other than a sharp knife/box-cutter.

FYI, nylon == "hard plastic", and I'm pretty sure that's what most fuel lines are made of, including Taurus lines.

If you have a caliper, you can tell quickly what diameter the fuel lines are; just measure. Even if you have to use a short length of string and do the whole diameter = circumference / pi thing, you should be able to easily get within 1/16" of the actual value. It's usually the outer diameter that you're talking about with fuel line.

Spray some WD40 or the like into the fitting...it might help it loosen up. Sometimes the tool will loosen it, but the lines are stuck together. Its a real pain in the ass.

So you know that you can remove the lines from the fuel rail by stretching the little spring inside the dish fitting, right? You actually want to take the nylon line off the metal fitting?

Why do you want to remove the nylon line from the metal fitting? Is it your intention to replace all of the nylon part?
