I have this problem with my clutch and need help. It seems to center around second gear only. Whenever I downshift into second and let the clutch out I get this vibration in the pedal and the whole engine shakes. It has been so bad that it broke the drivers side axle. I had this problem with the prior clutch which had only 6000 miles on when I decided to replace it in hopes of curing the problem. With that clutch I also couldn't back up on a hill whatsoever. The clutch pedal would vibrate in and out and the car would not go anywhere. Now with the new clutch I can back up just fine but still get the problem in second gear. It will not do it in any other gear. I did replace the clutch cable with one from autozone a while back and am thinking that maybe the problem. This clutch doesn't even have 1000 miles on it and it's a spec brand clutch. Any ideas.

Hmm.. this is quite a unique problem. It sounds like something in the 2nd gear assembly might be at fault if it's happened with two clutches and it only occurs in 2nd gear. As far as the reverse thing, or the pedal vibration, you might have a problem with the clutch cable.

Also, have you done the clutch cable adjustment? If not see if that makes any differences. Also, if you have vibrating pedal symptoms often (all gears).. Did you use Loctite on the Pressure Plate bolts? That could be the cuiprit. Either that or your TOB might be having issues.

Everything was loctited and torqued correctly. One thing I tried tonight was to switch cables out from an old ****** that I have. Well the cable was too short so I went ahead and put the old one back in and now I get wheel hop in 1st, 2nd, and reverse. It seems that the gears with the most torque in them cause it. I also went to an empty parking lot tonight to try and figure this thing out. Well I left my hood open and put the car in reverse and took off to see if the engine would shake and it didn't but the drivers side wheel did. It almost shook my dashboard off. I am freakin tired. Car crusher here I come.

Sounds like it could be a motor mount or suspension related. Take a look at the drivers side strut rod (the rod that goes from the front of the subframe to the LCA). Make sure that the nuts holding the rod are torqued down and that the bushings (4 of them) are in good shape.

Also check that the spindle nut is VERY tight. Specs are for 180ft lbs or so. Use a breaker bar with a 30mm socket and tighten it down as hard as you can. Check to see that the half-shaft is fully seated in the trans and the spindle.

While you're under the car check all three motor mounts for wear as well.

Good luck,
