What do they mean and are they old codes or have you cleared your codes and these are recent codes?

Hey there,

From my limited understanding of the way codes are thrown and generated. Each time something goes wrong, a code is thrown. When the code is thrown with enough frequency the service light comes on.

As Tom alluded too, the codes that you are reading now maybe from a previous problem. One thing to do might be to clear the codes, drive it for a bit and see if another code is thrown.

Hope that helps some,

Rav.

Sorry for not explaining more, 556 Fuel Pump relay primary circuit failure.558 EGR valve regulator solenoid circuit failure. Don't know if they are old codes how do you clear you clear codes. This is the first time that I have ever pulled my own codes. The codes were last pull about 1 1/2 years ago. As far as the EGR I had it replaced when I Bought it and was then told about the cleaning of the intake I thougt that was a joke but not after I got onto this site.

1: clear the old codes by disconnecting the battery for a minute then hooking it back up. Then you need to reset the idle.

2: how do I reset the idle?

NOTE 1: The Ford owner's manual directs that the idle program be relearned following any service when the battery has been disconnected. To do this, it states that the engine should be started and allowed to idle for the (approximately) 70 seconds without touching the gas pedal. Adding the accessory loads ensures that the EEC and IAC valve can accommodate the additional air flow requirements and still maintain the programmed idle speed.

NOTE 2: It is preferable that the car be driven immediately after setting the idle programming. While driving, allow the coolant temperature to rise to the normal range and run the car through its entire performance range.

Idle Speed Program Reset Procedure
-----------------------------------------
1) Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
....Optionally, disconnect the keep alive memory (KAM) connector in the small
....wire also landed to the negative battery terminal.
2) Wait at least 30 seconds.
4) Reconnect the KAM connector or negative battery terminal.
5) Start engine normally (never press the gas pedal).
6) Allow the idle speed to settle for at least 30 seconds.
7) Within 70 seconds of starting the engine, concurrently apply all accessory loads.
....a) Climate control to MAX A/C.
....b) Headlight switch ON, brights ON.
....c) Turn steering wheel slowly ~1/4 turn side to side.
....d) Press brake pedal.
....e) ATX SHOs only: shifter to DRIVE.
8) Do not turn off engine for at least 5 minutes.

Hey! I've had the SHO for 8 years now, and that was the only thing I ever picked up. Been saving it for a couple of years. Did it sound like I knew what I was doing?

If you've seen the Geico adverts, you can imagine the stick I've been getting at work.

BTW do any you guys understand the 'pie and chips' comment on the advert?

Of course, "...it's pie, and chips, for FREE!"

"...of course I'd watch the kids, you're like a brother to me."

I wanna see that little green freak sell some insurance to a hungry hawk.

Ok I've tried it all and I still come up with the same codes. Can you tell me where the fuel pump primary relay is at so I can check it out? Or is it the fuel pump, the shut off valve, the relay or what. The part of the "pie and chips" refers to kidney pie and fries thats what they say on the other side of the pond

If memory serves, (and at my age it doesn't even respond to pleadings), a decade ago Pat Bedard of Car and Driver outed Geico as the money behind an Alpha Bit named group (Americans Against Rapid Progress. AARP, er, something like it), that gave grant money to small towns to buy radar units.

So I've hated the little green SOB since before he was born! Their parallel ads always seemed to me to mock the very demographic they sought.

Yea, I remember the geico bashing by c&d way back when. They sign ya up low but rake you over the coals after your first accident/claim/ticket...fault or not.

The fuel pump relay is in the CCRM box that sits underneath the plastic diagram holder/ fan protector. It also houses the relays for the fans and other things.

There is also a safety switch that opens up the circuit when the car experiences a sharp bump of any kind. This switch is located in the left rear fender, behind the trunk carpeting. If the button is flush with the housing,it's been tripped. To reset it, push it in; it should stay recessed about a quarter inch or so. I always test it after a reset by whacking the structural member next to the switch. That should make it pop back out, and then I push it back in again.

Good luck.
And about that Gieco Gecko. Don't like him. Bring back the Budwieser lizards, or the squirrels that cause the accident and then high-five each other.:laugh_ti: :laugh_ti:

Yep, steak and kidney pie and chips. A staple of any students diet. Each time I see that advert, I can't help of some people thinking of apple pie with lays potato chips (which should be called crisps).

Anyway sorry for hijacking the thread.

Good luck with the codes.

BTW, you don't need to disconnect the battery to clear the memory codes (which will also erase the learned tuning and idle). Just disconnect the jumper wire while the Key-On-Engine-Off memory codes are being flashed and the stored memory codes will be cleared.

Clear the codes as above, turn off the ignition and hook the jumper wire up again. You should be able to run the KOEO and KOER tests again and hopefully get only 111 codes. Drive it around and check memory codes again.
