Hey I just did a modified 60k. I replaced the timing belt, water pump, acc belts, valve adjustment, valve covers, spark plugs, and wires. The car started up fine, ran a tiny bit rough at first but it smoothed out almost immediately. I drove it for about 10 minutes...then the power steering cut out and the car almost immediately died...luckily I was able to pull into a parking lot so it didn't die on the street. Now I'm wondering...what did I do? I checked all the connections and everything...it has gas, oil, and antifreeze. What could be causing this? Did I mess up my CPS? How do I check it? What else could this be? The car just "doesn't sound right" when it's turning over...it has spark and fuel...any ideas?

I would check all your connections again. Also check that your DIS is grounded...2 bolts on the crossover tube, and 1 on the back passenger side of the intake.

If it's running rough, are you sure that the engine is in time, and the belt isn't off a tooth?

It ran rough for the first 2 minutes then smoothed out. It's not starting at all now...it turns over just won't catch it. I checked the belt again and it is PERFECT. I checked that the DIS was grounded and cleaned the bolts. It looks good...

Check to see if there are any codes. If the CPS died it should have set a code. Did you gap it?

Yes I gapped the CPS...actually someone else gapped it but it was gapped and the car ran just fine before it died....

Ok, if you are sure. I mis-gapped mine and it worked until the part of it get chewed off by the gear.

Did you check your codes. You may get a lead from checking them.

I'm pretty sure...I'm going to school for automotive technology and this is pretty much what they teach us to do...not saying I can't make a mistake...but yes I checked it out...I'm going to test it tomorrow on a scope to be sure.

Also, the car seems to be turning over pretty slowly, even though the battery has 12.xx volts ...the starter is pulling ~9.6v so it should be getting enough to start...something just doesn't "sound" right...no scraping or crunching or anything, but my g/f claims to have heard a "thump" ... i think it was the starter or clutch because I didn't hear or feel anything. Also the tachometer is reading when it cranks...

Okay I tried cranking it over for like 30 seconds after reading some of the posts on here....now it will barely turn over, even though the battery is "okay" also, I heard a sort of *WHUMP* sound...didn't really sound like anything breaking/snapping...but now I'm wondering what's up with this motor...

I had a problem a few weeks ago where it wouldn't start, it had spark and fuel, the only thing noticeable was it wasn't cranking quick enough. I ended up diagnosing EVERYTHING and my problem was electrical. My + connector to the battery was shot, as well as the main 100A fuse, after that she turned over as quick as needs to be but still wouldn't start, I'm guessing my engine was flooded by then. SO I pulled all the sparkplugs and sure enough they were fouled with gas, replaced those and voila she is running top notch now.

Hmmm I'll have to check the fuse...maybe my 1.2kw stereo sucked a lil too much juicey-juice....

Okay..I have no 100 amp fuse...I have fusible links...Also, I pulled the codes and got 21 & 24.... ECT sensor out of range and IAT sensor out of range...could the IAT sensor cause a no-start??

Also...I was just outside trying to turn her over and I realized the WHUMP noise I heard (twice now) was indeed a backfire

ANNNNNND:::

SHE ALMOST STARTED!!! YAY!!! Unfortunately, I put too much strain on the battery the past few days and it's down below 11volts...it just doesn't have enough juice to kick the motor over...I'm wondering now if it isn't a combination of undercharged battery and old starter. I'm going to jump it tonight and see if I can get it to catch...it ALMOST fired up...practically caught...I thought it would fire the next time, but the battery barely had juice to turn the motor over...I'm thinking the starter is d e a d-ish...
