i found this inside my intakes sitting in top of one of the valves. the car was running ok before i was just going to change the tips of my injectors for some SHO tips.

does anybody know what it is and where it belongs to?

sorry about the size of the picture.

How big is it? I see something metal (?) next to it, but you should put a common object that the size is known next to it for comparison. (Ex: dollar bill, quarter, finger, lol etc.)

is about the size of $0.25 coin(quarter) or maybe a little smaller just big enough to fit though the intake piping and probably about one quarter of a inch thick...

thanks.

also is made of some kind of heavy duty plastic, teflon maybe.

kinda looks like the IAT (intake air temp) sensors' mount.... but your car is S/c'ed.... or was this on another car.

other than that i havent a clue what it is...

That was my guess too - ACT (air charge temperature) sensor mounting nut from inside the air box.

but if this is on his S/C car, i dont see how it got there? not unless the ACT(thanks for the clarifiaction) is mounted pre-throttle body/post blower in the piping somewhere... but that really wouldnt help as it would read some fairly hot temps, correct?

Yes, it reads hotter temps, but it still needs to be there. You can't just leave it dangling in the engine compartment like you maybe can with just a K&N cone filter...the blower increases the temps so much that you really HAVE to have it in there.

Is your ACT sensor in the flow of the intake air, between the MAF and TB? Is it still in place? If so, you probably don't need to put the nut back. If the ACT sensor is dangling in the engine compartment and there's a hole in your intake tubing that it used to be in, then yes, you do need to replace it. Make sure it's really snug this time.

my ACT sensor is in the elbow before the s/cd, unit, before the MAF and TB. is pretty tight in there, is that a good place for it?

thank!

The ACT sensor is BEFORE the Supercharger??? It should be after the supercharger....just about anywhere after the supercharger. Mine just happens to be between the MAF and TB. The temperature of the air is much hotter after it goes through the supercharger, which is why you want it after the blower. If it's before it, the computer will think the air is cooler than it actually is.

I know its a fixed problem...

but...

would that help though? if it was pre blower? then the EEC would see that it has a cooler charge and "dump" more fuel in?
OR
would this be a bad thing, as temps are constantly changing? resulting in a bad idle? or lean condition?
sorry to bring it up again... but im curious about that.

Your logic is flawed because the engine makes constant changes based on the information it is getting from the ACT, MAF, TB and O2 Sensors. It uses the ACT, MAF and TB information to guestimate how much fuel to dump in since fuel is something it can control moreso than air intake. After its guestimation, it looks at the data from the O2 to see how it did. If the O2 senses too much fuel left after the burn, it'll dump in less fuel, regarless of what the data from the ACT, MAF and TB are telling it. It's constantly changing fuel load based on inputs from these sensors to attempt to maintain a A/F ratio consistent with your current driving style.

Yes, based on the above. By making it think that the air that's coming in is cooler because it's pre blower, you're only making it take longer to figure out what's really going on - ie, the air is hotter than it thinks and it doesn't need as much fuel as it's giving the engine. This 'delay' while it figures things out causes the car to run poorly (probably most noticed in poor tip in throttle response) for a period of time. Granted, it's a relatively short period of time and the computer will 'learn' over time, but it doesn't change the fact that this is the wrong way to do it.

Get it? If not, let me know. I think that's a pretty clear explaination.....
