Help....93 automatic transmission totally inoperative

My 93atx shifter will move thru all positions, but the atx will not engage in any gear, forward or reverse.

It was working fine when I parked it in my gargage, but now it won't engage any gear. I thought the cable might be broken but upon inspection it is ok and the control lever on the atx moves fine as the shifter is moved on the console. When in park the car cannot be rolled but when in any other position it can be rolled.

The only stored code I get is a 452, but I don't really think the vss is bad since it was replaced a few thousand miles ago and the shifts have been smooth. Also I don't think a failed vss would render the atx totally inoperative.

Prompt replies will be appreciated since I'm dead in the water.

Thanks,

Ashton

I would check the end of the shifter linkage ontop of the transmission to see if the transmission is being physically engaged by the shifter..

The cable is connected and moves the linkage when the console shifter is moved from position to position (actually am I correct that the lever with the cable connected that actually turns is all of the visible linkage?). Also, when it is moved out of "Park" the parking lock is disengaged thus allowing the car to roll when pushed.

I'm going to dig up all my manuals and do some study, but is there some common solenoid, electrical connection etc. that will keep the transmission from engaging any gear?

Also, when a transmission fails, is it common that no gear either forward or reverse will engage? I thought that normally only one of the gears failed.

well i would have to say that the linkage is alright, or else you would not be able to roll in any gear. first things first check the tranny fluid, for wear and the level. if you are feeling lucky, flush the system out and put in new fluid...see if that pans out.

also unhook battary and hook up after 5 mins again...see if anything resets

1. Tranny fluid changed less than 3,000 miles ago but checked anyway and it is full and clean pink with no unusual odor.

2. Unhooked battery for 30 mins, reconnected and still have problem.

3. No codes when checked.
