Ok, I am really frustrated now. I have pulled the air hose, air box, sensor on air box, throttle linkage, electrical connector on throttle, the 3 TB coolant lines AND the PCV line, the grounding strap bolt, the line connected to the 19mm bolt on the back, unplugged secondaries, removed crossover tune and all intake bolts.

The damn thing is loose but still won't come off! I even loaded SHO Phoenix on my BlackBerry out here and I followed all instructions! Its like something is still bolted on.

What did I do wrong?

By PVC, do you mean the one that comes from the valve cover, or the one under the intake in the valley of the block?

It's good Friday. After a quick sermon, I'll be happy to walk you through intake removal.

You have a hose somewere still connected if it is loose. Take a second to make sure you have all of the coolant hoses under the throttle body disconnected as well as the large hose going to the bottom of the TB to engine. Also don't forget to unplug the IAC wiring.
Have you tried to remove the throttle body by itself and see if you can get the intake up? That gasket is reuseable if you don't break or bend it. This will allow you to get a better look at everything.

I got it!!!

Guess what it was? Last time I tried this I dropped one of the intake bolts down underneath and it got wedged between the fuel rail and intake, that's why it didn't come up.

Now I'm going to tear off this front valve cover and see what it looks like.

My TB is very oily. That can't be good.

LOL I figured about as much after I had you count your intake bolts and you only came up with 11. :nut:

Well well boys and girls. I popped the valve cover and I have some cam lone and shim damage right smack where the noise was coming from.

I will post pics when my either my dad or brother get home with their laptop.

I have spare shims in the trunk. Is this fixable?

Good deal, now you can get it running without noise and enjoy it. Nothing like tackling a task by yourself.

I was going to go ahead and fix her up since she's already torn down, but I don't have the shim tools. SHOBill said I could probably make something work, but I'd rather use the right tools.

I do have some spare shims but no extra camshaft. I could probably reuse this one.

I took pics but the BB pics were bad, so I used a camera and will upload them later.

I mainly wanted to just find the problem. If it doesn't sell, I'll take it to my friends shop to work on it. He has air tools and other specialty tools.

I finally got the courage to tear into the thing and find the problem at least.

Yeah, no air tools on any of those bolts that screw into the aluminum head. Be especially careful with the cam cap and valve cover bolts.

Thanks guys especially Tom and Bill. Now that I've worked up the courage to tear into it, its not too bad, just time consuming.

If the car doesn't sell, I'll rent a shim and tool kit rather than improvise. We are going out with friends tonight, so I threw it back together for now. After realizing the DIS wasn't plugged in, I corrected that and the car started right back up.

I can now successfully tear the motor down to the heads and put it back together. Woop Woop!
