Heater blows cold???

Whenever I drive my car and the temp gauge goes up, i have tried to turn on the heat to cool the motor down. Every time I push the heat, it blows cold air. It just started recently.

I have replaced coolant and thermostat a few months ago. Could it be the temp sender? I already have a new one sitting in my garage and was wondering if that could fix it?

Sounds like the heater core went on you, you might want to check to see if there is coolant on the floorboards or the sweet smell of coolant in the compartment. Good Luck thumbs_u

I used to have an '86 Sable and had the exact same problem. The solution for me was that I had very dirty coolant. Once I put some new coolant in there, it worked fine.

I hope it's not the heater core cuz that sucker is annoying to have to replace.

There is plenty of coolant in the car. Coolant was replaced by me recently and should not be dirty. There is no smell of coolant in the engine compartment or the cab.

I guess I should change the coolant and see but does anyone have anymore ideas?

There is a switch on the coolant line that goes to the heater core. Make sure that it is plugged in. If that switch does not work it won't allow coolant to flow.

It sounds like there is air in the system. Do this:

1. Take the radiator cap off
2. Turn the car on
3. Turn the heat on full blast out of the vent
4. Just let the car run. You will see air bubbling up out of the radiator fill hole. Once the air is done bubbling, all the air is out and you are ready to go. Please let me know if this works. Good luck!
