Heater blend door actuator fix cost

Hey guys gonna take my 2013 to a shop for estimate on fixing heater door blend actuator I actually bought the part already but what should be installation be what should he charge if he’s not a crook ?

It depends which actuator it is. iirc, there are 4 of them, some of which are way more difficult to get to than others.

It calls for 0.7 hours labor. It is actually pretty easy access behind the glove box. If they are at $100/hr, your looking $70 plus shop fees and taxes. Any shop I ever worked at would not install a customer part though without driving the labor price up. They calculate in a markup on the part as part of their profit. Also, if a customer part is used, there is no warranty. There is also no guarantee on their end that it will fix the problem since it was not diagnosed by them. You are probably a lot better off watching some YouTube and trying to install it yourself.

There is some great videos on replacing it, and much easier than the driver side from watching videos.

That one is pretty easy, I would just use youtube university and do it myself.

Both of the passenger sides actuators are easily seen after removing the glove box.

The one at the top of the driver side is a huge pain. Thankfully I have tiny hands and can fit under the dash easily.

Patience and YouTube will get you an easy road to repair.

Also I might add from experience, since taking ownership of my 2010 SHO, I replaced both actuators on the passenger side with cheap non-OEM parts. They only lasted a few months. Ended up replacing them with OEM Motorcraft ones, been issue free since.

That's where I am with top driver and recirculation actuators. They both went bad with short notice sp had to replace them with what was available locally. Both already went bad and local auto parts store was told if they go out again I'm getting a refund and going to the dealership.

When you are putting the bolts back in, tape them to the socket so you don't accidentally drop the bolt, if it drops down in there you'll never see it again. Passenger side is pretty easy, just move the big bundle of wires as far out of way as you can.

I taped the second and third bolt. Pretty sure 2 bolts is all that thing needs anyhow.

Part is the same price as passenger side, but the actuator for driver side is much more labor intensive to get to. Most shops would probably charge a couple hours labor.

I think this may be the one you're looking for. It's not a great video but it works to show you where it is.

If it happens to be the defrost blend door, that one is a beast and sucks, but is doable at home.

So... here we are again...

I have replaced the blend door actuator a few times now. Since it is so easy to do I'll keep the cheap aftermarket ones and replace them forever.

The defrost mode door actuator (behind the instrument gauges) has had the old one removed and I am waiting for the Motorcraft replacement to arrive so I can hopefully get it to last for 10 years like the initial install.
