Is there more headroom clearance in a non-sunroof car than a sunroof car? Does the headliner actually sit higher up in a non-sunroof car than a sunroof car?

Yes there is, I don't fit in sunroof SHO's. I think it's like an inch and a quarter.

yes. and they're a tad lighter too. the headliner is the same thickness, but sits about 1 3/4" higher. the dome light console is taken from a mustang also if that matters any.

its a pretty generic dome light... i've see it in many different makes of fords. in fact i think its still used to this day in some vehicles.

I've never really noticed, but I cant remember the last non-sunroof SHO I rode in. My helmet hits my sunroof trim occasionally, which only sucks because the solid trans mount makes everything vibrate, which then makes my head vibrate when it hits the trim.

yes it's pretty significant, the first track 89 I had had a roof. It's essentially a 2 ply roof with the glass/track and mechanicals. The non roof cars use just the outside sheetmetal with the interior support ribs, which end up much higher than the bottom of the roof'd cars. The headliner is cup'd more to.

I wanted to cut the mechanicals out, and the 2nd ply to weigh it, never did...but it's pretty significant, and for sprung weight, it's in the worst possible spot (very top of the car, raising the CG)

having had both (and lived with the 92 for 10+ yrs with a roof) my next SHO (89) will NOT have a roof.

So if Im taking the sunroof out of my car and replacing it with a lexan panel, can I cut out all the bracing stuff that goes around the sunroof and put a non-roofed cars healiner in and gain some clearance?

I've only got 1 (my 92) which has really taken a beating the last several years. Once the house is finished and I have a much better place to work on/store another car, the idea of fiddling with a SHO is more appealing to me with an 89, vs my 92.

89 non sunroof models have the most room; I am 6'6" and cannot fit into a Gen II mostly due to the dash that sticks out and keeps hitting the knees.

SHOs seem to be really popular with tall guys. I'm 6'5". Sure, an S2000 is fun to drive, but the top of the windshield frame is right in my face.

I noticed the ceiling difference too. Both my current SHOs fortunately don't have sunroofs, but the white plus I sent to the junkyard was rather uncomfortable.
